Purchasing Mass Vestment Sets

Hopefully this is the correct forum for this post.

Does anyone know where a priest/parish can purchase used older Mass sets? They can’t afford expensive vestments.

It is a new parish of the Anglican Use (US Ordinariate) and they are starting out small with little money.

The priest is looking for fiddleback chasuables, including a maniple and stole.

He also needs albs that have some lace if possible. The most costly item is a cope.

At this time green would be the choice of color as that is the color used now and for most of the year.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The group meets in a Catholic Church so they are limited on the time.

In the future they would be looking for vessels for the Asperges and an incense boat, etc.

If memory serves me correctly, there was this link once posted on the forum of an online store from India where you could get a full Solemn High Mass set for around $400…
 
Before purchasing you might want to check with you local Bishop. With all the church closings there may be a local repository of excess vestments etc.

Or, check the attics of old parishes. I know of a seminarian who was given the task of cleaning out the church attic during the summer where he was assisting. He found some very nice and elaborate vestments from the pre-Vatican II days. They were taken out and put into regular use at diocesan Masses.

That might be a good idea, as the local Bishop is very supportive of the new parish.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I don’t know if he has tried e-bay or asked other parishes if they have vestments that are not being used.

Hopefully at some point the parish will grow and they can purchase a building. They must set up an altar each Sunday, as the Mass is done ad orientiem and for some of the older people it is difficult to kneel without an altar rail. As a former Anglo Catholic it has been wonderful to experience familiar hymns and some of the prayers from many years ago.

Our latin mass group started with mis-matched hand-me -down vestment sets. Then we discovered Ackerman Vestments on Ebay. You can buy complete sets for $170.00 plus $19.00 for shipping. We have bought 3 sets from them now(Rose, white,and green) and we are really pleased. Our goal is to complete the colors by next summer with violet, red, and black.
