Purgatory and ghosts

Recently I have been reading about purgatory and from my understanding if you are in purgatory you are already saved but you are waiting to be cleansed of all of your sins. well could ghosts exist? are they just our loved ones waiting on their cleansing before heaven? The only thing I dont know about is why are their evil ghosts if all people in purgatory are going to heaven? thanks in advance
 
What people think are “ghosts” are either an overactive imagination, a coincidence, or a demon. People in purgatory are wayyy too preocupied with getting to heaven… after all, they catch a brief glimpse of God but are ‘held back’ to be cleansed. And since being with God is the final and ultimate joy, what we were created for, it only follows that they wouldn’t be hanging out on earth, even if they could… they’d be in purgatory working their butts off to get to heaven. It’s the least we can do to pray for them and offer indulgences and sacrifices in our daily lives for them.😃 because I’m sure many of us will be there one day.
 
im new to the catholic religion what kind of work is there in purgatory? what would one do there. and if you are already in purgatory then you are already going to heaven. so why would you have to do works to go to heaven if your already on the path there?
 
You don’t “do work” your sanctification is perfected. It is a spiritual work between the spirit of the person and the Holy Spirit to let go of attachments to anything from the life on earth that is unholy. Some people don’t view it as a pure torment, but as a mixture of experiences and a life review.
 
Pray the St. Gertrude prayer for the souls in Purgatory - Eternal Father, I offer you the most precious blood of your Divine Son Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the day, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, in my own home and in my family.

Each time you say this prayer, 1000 souls are released from Purgatory.

I agree with the other posts. I don’t think dead people are hanging around earth - they are too busy getting themselves cleansed in Purgatory. And once you are in Heaven, why on earth would you want to come back here when you are in the ultimate perfect place?
