I was reading a very interesting article last night, from a Jewish Renewal website, written by Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi.
The article was from a speech he had given to a Jewish burial society, but in the article, he briefly discusses how Jews and Catholics both believe in purgatory and prayers for the dead, and also, how it is an ancient Jewish practice to ask loved ones who have died, to intercede with God for us in the afterlife (which to me, is just like asking departed saints to intercede.)
I thought some might like to read it (much you might not understand, esp. the Hebrew and Yiddish expressions, but give it a try anyway!)
