I can relate somewhat to your situation in that my FIL was loud and boisterous and opinionated and competitive and could be mighty blunt at times. Other times he could be the soul of grace and a terrific gentleman…It was just his way and one has no choice but to get use to it.
In my case he was offset by the sweetest (but tough) MIL one could ever ask for. Funny, bright, joyful, smart…a real lady, but also very “real”.
In fact, if you have ever seen the movie “On Golden Pond” you have a real good idea of my In-Laws.
He has been gone for a number of years now and even with all of his, as Kate Hepburn said in the movie, “poop” we miss him terribly.
