Idk if this belongs here… well I’ll take a shot at it.

This was mentioned on another thread and is ridiculously interesting… I have never before heard about souls in purgatory sending “messages” in the form of burnt hand prints and things like that.

This is all ‘official’ right? And does anybody have any more info about this?

Thanks for the link – that interview was one of the most interesting things I have read. I wish I could know with 100% certainty that everything there was true.

If so, it gives me great hope for the chances of most people making it to heaven…which of course is not what the Bible says, but then again, we always look to the unfathomable Divine Mercy of God…

Do you think this could be true? That this woman had died while undergoing an abortion, and went quickly to heaven? Such a mortal sin and no Confession?

I liked what Maria has to say about the opportunity for graces in this life. This life is such a gift! 🙂

There is of course the possibility that it was not done with full consent or full knowledge of the sinfulness.

It really is! If only people knew more how complex our faith is, taking all things into account! Stuff such as the handprints and Maria should be as mainstream as Fatima and the like, it would really ‘help our unbelief’

I couldn’t agree more that the mystical gets tossed aside all too often, to our own detriment. It’s often a gift from God, just as the miraculous healings were during the time that Our Lord walked the earth. 🙂

I think it could be true, because I think the key to it is the woman’s deep repentance. Perhaps she had perfect contrition for her sin, which does not have to take place in the Confessional.

I printed it out, took it home, and read it again.

It really contains some beautiful stuff, but again, I wish there was something else to indicate that it was really all true.

The problem I see is that it can really promote the sin of presumption. That said, it seems the Catholic Church knows about all these things, in particular the “last chance” concept, but keeps it quiet specifically for this reason. A similar case I read was that one day, Jesus said He would give Saint Faustina one wish, and she asked that everyone who died that day would go to heaven. Jesus said something along the lines of “You have no idea the magnitude of what you are asking. However, this shows you understand the depths of my mercy.” Something like that.

Anyway, does anyone know anything more about this woman ? Were there miracles attributed to her ? Has anyone seen the burned handprints ? Has the church backed away from her claims ?

One thing that really struck me was her emphasis on humility, and its natural counterpart, obedience. Something that we did not see in Medjugorge, for example…

Finally, did anyone else notice that the burned hand had 5 fingers - like the thumb was longer than any of the other fingers ? Kind of weird…

Yes, true humility’s everything, Christ said so himself.

Also, we can never presume to say we’re saved. This is a trick of the devil to make people comfortable so they slip back into various sins. The longer we’re in sin, the harder our hearts become and the less likely our chances of turning to God at the final, most critical hour; the hour of our death.

There have been others who’ve received visits from poor souls, St. Padre Pio and St. Faustina being two, but there are many others who have come asking for prayers.

I noticed the hand print was formed. Probably the hand of the poor soul had shifted slightly on the page while imprinting the image. The thumb never rested on the paper.

The only thing about that site is that they’re trying to sell things. I wish they’d keep there “catalog” and there blog separate. It comes off like the televangelist that wants to sell blessed clothes from the Holy Land…hmmmmmm. 😦

Yes I was put off by that as well–especially the “but wait there’s more!” aspect. However, that said the message itself sounded very orthodox–the emphasis on humility and obedience especially. I assume that we can research the original book and see if anything else has been said or written about it.

I bet this is not required for any catholic to believe. This is private revelation right? So it can be totally ignored.
I get the feeling it is a total hoax.

Thank you for posting. I had a gut feeling about it from the very start. Firstly, this “miracle” brings no glory to Jesus or the Catholic Church. It has a violent undertone to it (with the nun’s garments) and a Friar ought to know better than to ask for benefit for himself when we all know if purgatory is true, there were and are others that were there long before this guy, and he ought to be concerned about them and not himself first and foremost.

There are more tip offs the place is most likely a huge hoax, but I will refrain from mentioning them because it would not be charatible and skeptical of the intent of the operation in general. I think they are taking advatage of catholics who don’t know their faith that well though. And, I am sure they make a good buck at it with the number of visitors the site claims they get and the stuff they are selling there.
 
I have also concluded that this should be avoided.

Although it seems that most of it is in line with Church teaching, the part I found particularly troubling was the “few minutes to decide whether to accept or reject God forever” given to souls after the physical death of the body.

If this is true, and if purgatory is a desirable (albeit painful) place, then this really dulls the motivation to change one’s life, which is what the Bible talks about through and through.

I am wary because this is how Satan operates - 99% truths and 1% lies.

It is not "un"charitable to speak skeptically. It is ok for Catholics to be skeptical. This is part of the discernment process.

You are correct that we do not need to believe these visions or revelations. It is left up to the individual Catholic if they wish to do so. Unless, of course, the Church does come out against any specific vision or revelation.

Bear in mind that purgatory is part of Catholicism. So Catholics do believe in purgatory. But that is distinct from believing in visits from those in purgatory.
