You dont have any children, do you?
I do not get that personal with those who are trying to argue with me. 😃
St Paul wrote most of his letters because he was worried about the sins of church communities.
There were many heresies that St Paul was dealing with. There were many heresies that the Church Fathers dealt with. And there are many heresies today.

Please notice that I have not used the word Purgatory in my responses to you. I ask about concrete realities - unrepented sin at death and how that impacts salvation and you continue to dodge the question. If the Orthodox answer is “Nobody knows” simply say so.
I will answer you one more time. We are called to repent while we are on this earth. We cannot repent after we die. You and I do not know if someone has died with unrepented sins because we do not read hearts—God does. We trust in the mercy of God. Furthermore, this thread is about purgatory. If you care to discuss other subjects, then start another thread.

Your Church teaches that purgatory already means you are heaven bound. Are you claiming that there is a third “place”?
We do teach that being in purgatory is a temporary thing before going to heaven, but it is not heaven itself.
Yes. This third place is where we are cleansed before entering heaven (since nothing unclean shall enter heaven).
“In my Fathers kingdom there are many mansions”.
No matter which mansion you are in, if you are in heaven, you do not need prayers. I fail to see how this addresses my comment.
The soul united with the body will not be judged for heaven or hell until the final judgement.
Since the final judgement has not happened, where are those people that have died? Are you saying there is a third place for everyone that has died that are waiting for the final judgement?
There is a big divergence here. Do you deny that we are individually judged when we die?
God is not restrained by time.
AMEN!
However, I don’t understand how this addresses my comment.
My original comment:
“Those dead being prayed for are not in heaven nor hell. Where are they?”
The question was where, not when.

Here let me quote one of your sources “If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not {leading} to death, he shall ask and {God} will for him give life to those who commit sin not {leading} to death. There is a sin {leading} to death; I do not say that he should make request for this.” 1 John 5:16
Is this an example of not judging actions?
If you have committed the unforgivable sin in this life—blasphemy against the Holy Spirit—you have committed the sin that leads to death. This means that you do not even believe that repenting in this life will make any difference for you. You will not be able to repent in the next life.

You must define your faith, otherwise no one will know what it is - like me!
I try to live my faith. I preach the Gospel, and when necessary I use words (I forget who wrote that). Extravagant definitions are for dictionaries. The sources I provided will tell you much about Holy Orthodoxy. In fact there is a movie called, “Ostrov”. It is superb! It shows the essence of Holy Orthodoxy.

Out of curiosity, when was the last ecumincal council?
Oh yes. Your posts would not be complete without the classic, “when was the last Ecumenical Council” question. LOL! The last Ecumenical Council occurred at Nicea in 787 AD when the Churches were still united—a true Ecumenical Council. There has been no need for another one for Holy Orthodoxy because there has been no glaring heresies that are threatening the Church. We did not suffer through the protestant reformation such as the Latins.

So what happens if the Orthodox do face a similar “glaring heresy?” Will your “ecumenical” council be valid then?

Yes. This third place is where we are cleansed before entering heaven (since nothing unclean shall enter heaven).
So Rome officially teaches that purgatory is a third place? I did not know this. Can you show me where this is written?
No matter which mansion you are in, if you are in heaven, you do not need prayers. I fail to see how this addresses my comment.
Do you believe there are different levels of heaven? Many Mansions. St Paul talks about the third heaven.
Are you familiar with theosis?
Since the final judgement has not happened, where are those people that have died?
Our souls experience either a foretaste of heaven or a foretaste of hell depending on the life we lived (see the parable of Lazrus and the rich man).
Those dead being prayed for are not in heaven nor hell. Where are they?"
The question was where, not when.
It is not a place. It is a state as we wait for the final judgment.

Some would say that there can be no such thing as an Ecumenical Council until the Schism is healed. Other would say that Orthodoxy is the one true Church in the fullness of faith, therefore it would be a true Ecumenical Council.

But that is way off topic.

Why did you bring it up if it’s off topic?

No. St. Francis said it.
Q:** I keep seeing St. Francis of Assisi credited as saying, “Preach the gospel at all times. Use words if necessary.” I have looked in several places but cannot find where St. Francis said this.
**
A: This is a great quote, very Franciscan in its spirit, but not literally from St. Francis. The thought is his; this catchy phrasing is not in his writings or in the earliest biographies about him.
In Chapter XVII of his Rule of 1221, Francis told the friars not to preach unless they had received the proper permission to do so. Then he added, “Let all the brothers, however, preach by their deeds.”

"“Let all the brothers, however, preach by their deeds.”

Yeah. That’s not the same thing at all. 😉

:nope:  The RCC Doctrine on Purgatory in bible based and biblically proveable.

Old Testament 2 Mac. 12: 39-42

New Testament 1 Cor. 3:12-15

Hope this clarfies your concerns a bit:)
Oh I agree with you don’t get me wrong. But what I am saying that yes purgatory is in the bible, but many more things are in the bible that we may not understand today, But God can reveal it in laters years. Do you understand what I am saying.

Kind of like what the Pope thinks, and then what the Pope teaches. See what I am saying, Infallible teachings is what I am saying. But my thing is if the Church does not teach it, then I cannot except it. But if the Church teaches it, I not only must except it, not because I have to, but because if it comes from the Church I know it is true. Jesus promised that to me. As long as I stay with the RCC the teachings will be the truth.

But as I can relate to Mickey that it may not have been the teachings 1000 years ago, it just wasn’t revealed to us 1000 years ago. IT is today, thats what counts. And speaking for myself if the Pope makes it the doctrine of the CHurch Im in.

Let’s began by reviewing what Christ Himself tell’s us.

John 3: 5"** Jesus answered, “Truly, truly,** I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

These are the very words of Jesus Himself. They are clear, specific, and apply to all, all the time.👍

Something we must understand and never forget is that “truth does not have to be believed inorder for it to be the truth.” There are
zillions of examples where the truth is denined, but it still THE TRUTH. Agreed?

If your friend denies the bible, then all I suggest you do is pray daily for her and her children.

So the fact that your friend choses not to accept The Truth, does nothing to validate her position, and nothing to alter what is actually the truth. If she has the oportunity to learn the TRUTH and choses not to, she is cupable for a Grave Sin, if the matter is a “grave matter,” which in this case it definitely is. And it seems clear that you are rightly giving her the opportunity to learn the truth.

Supported by common logic, both the Late Great JP II and Pope benedict XVI, have clearly explained that on any given topic their can be only one single truth. As Benedict say’s: “their can’t be your truth and my truth, or their would be NO TRUTH.”

Clearly she is putting her personal salvation at GRAVE risk, while at the same time making her childrens salvation uncertain.

The official teaching of the RCC, is that a child should be baptized ASAP after birth, to assure their Salvation. We can, and should, trust in God’s Mercy, should an infant die without Baptism; but we can’t know with certitude that the infant in question is actually in heaven. We THINK it is, but do not actually know for sure.

You can, and should judge her relative to her judgements and actions, which seem to be very clear. Please read Mt. 7: 15-20

If you are able to so it with tenderness, charity, and without anger, you are morally obligated to share this information with her. Again, I caution you, if your friend will not accept the bible as God’s Word, and binding on all, then all I suggest you do is pray for her the kids.

If she claims to believe in the bible, began with 2 Tim. 3:16 - 17 "16 All scripture is inspired by God and * profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Then start at the top of this post and proceed. another option, is to cut and paste this post and let her read it from an impartial 3td. party, me. And then just answer her questions.

We never argue our faith. We share it when we are given the opportunty to do so.

:extrahappy: your doing good, God bless you:clapping:

Pat
See everything you say is true, and the exact teachings of our church. But here is my point what do you say to someone who reallt does not want to hear it, and then when you show them where in the bible and what it says, Then its turned around on you that you are judgeing them. or who named you God. When all you are doing is trying to help. Thats what happens to me. so I give up.
