The word Purgatory is not in the Bible but the Bible describes it. 1Cor 3:15, 1Pet 1:7,
2 Macc 12:46. Read the Cathechism of the Catholic Church 1030,1031, 1032

People knew about it, prayed for the souls there… not everything people knew about is written down by name. The early martyrs mention it… The souls for the dead were prayed for, even before Christianity in Judaism…
