I suppose you could substitute the word penny with sin; which would support your understanding of “paying off” our debts before we enter Heaven, which is how you would interpret court, right? H-m-m-m-?
Yep. That’s what Jesus meant, since nothing unclean can enter heaven. Even though our sins are forgiven, there are still the consequences of sin that stain us until we are cleansed and purified ( the same as if we commited a crime, and then repent of that crime. We may be forgiven, but still have to serve time in jail because of the consequence of the crime ). God Bless.

UOTE=tweetymom;6385797]Amen to that dear brother. I really have a problem with that, and purgatory.

That’s quite alright, it’s just that you threw me when I was talking about calling priests father, and you put out those two verses:confused: And true, this fhread is about purgatory; and whether or not it exists:rolleyes:

IMHO heaven, hell and purgatory exist, and there is a simple parallel we can find on this earth.

let’s say a man is accused of a capital offence, and appears before the judge. if he is found innocent, he walks free. if he is found guilty, he is sentenced to death. if he is found guilty of a lesser charge, he is imprisoned for a while before being freed.

should we not expect the Divine Tribunal of God’s Justice to be any different?

🙂

Who’s condemning who? Just because a noncatholic says that he doesn’t believe in calling any mortal man Father, as opposed to father, does not constitute condemnation! Calling you pagans or worse for calling your priests father would be condemnation!👍 Romans 8:1
Please know that I am not condemning you for your belief as to whether Catholics should call their priests father or not. I don’t condemn anyone - it is not my nature. But I do know many non-Catholics who do believe that we should not call any man father except our Father in Heaven.

I do apologize to you. We are both Christians on our journey to God’s heavenly Kingdom and that is what should be our definite goal in life.

Lets us know we need to help you so we can get on the thread,LOL

“And while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!” Do you believe that God accepts us just as we are, whether broken, prideful, stubborn or worse? Yes, I believe He does! And if we let Jesus live His life through us, it makes living up to your faith a bit easier! But the priest doesn’t really drink a beer, right? I met my beautiful wife while engaged in street ministry:thumbsup: God kept pushing us together, and we kept pushing away! Finally, we realized that He had ordained and orchestrated this union, and six weeks later began dating! We have many Matthew 25(Matthew 25:31-40) ministries, and find immense joy in serving! In my past, I have dated Mormon, catholic,Baptist, and Seventh Day Adventist! I do not condemn anyone’s faith, rather encourage them to follow Jesus(of course icking up your cross daily)! One thing that I am certain of; if God is not in your marriage, the road will be rough and dark!
Sure the Priest enjoys a beer every now and then, The same as I do myself:D And of course I agree that a marriage without God is not a true marriage. A true marriage is made up of 3 persons. THe Husband, the Wife, and God.

And once again, we agree, I do believe that God accepts us as we are. Sometimes I think he is truly the only one who does:😃

I like you condemn noones faith, and like My Holy Father:p admire them for the truth they proclaim.

Just as you LB could never imagine confessing your sins to a Priest, I could never imagine not doing it. Just as you could not imagining called the Pope the Holy Father I could never imagine not adressing him as such.

But we can still love eachother and be kind to eachother for the Christ we do have in us, Can’t we? And you know you love me lB:p

And lb what we need to do as children of God is you can’t blame me for what God has revealed to me through the Church and the sacraments.

And…Well Okay, Here it is:eek: I cannot blame you for what has not been revealed to you yet!! Hows that:D

It does and we will probally meet there some day lB. And you can say hey Rin you were right. And I can say aren’t ya glad IB:D:hug1:

And I have never, nor am I now condemning catholics, or anyone else who either feels compelled or blessed to call their priests father. Although I am not a father, I do understand the significant role that fathers play in our lives. Men can act as a father, even if the child is not their own; imparting as I say,"pearls of wisdom’ upon these young men and women! And I do not believe that there was the use of punctuation or capitalization when the Bible was first written, but I think that as new editions were printed, capitalization was used as a means to note the deity and soverignity of God; hence call no man Father, as opposed to father. I am just saying that I can only call God, my Holy Father, never any mortal man! And you are right, we are both christians, on separate paths that lead to the same destination!👍

Yes, “two is better than one, and three is even better. For a cord of three is not easily broken.” Like the trinity, a marriage is made of of three, as you say; and is sacred. I must admit, that in my sordid past, I did not honor God’s dDivine plan for marriage, and He was not in it! I do not beat myself up over this faux pas, rather I revel in His grace and mercy, for forgiving me, and bringing my new wife into my life! Do I deserve it, no; well only because God says I do. I have not done anything in this life to merit salvation, but He offered it anyway:thumbsup: face it, if we got what we deserved, we’d all go to Hell. The reason I could never imagine confessing my sins to a priest(poor choice of words, possibly), is that Jesus’s death on the Cross, tore the veil(from the top down) allowing us entry, unrestricted, into the throneroom of grace(Hebrews 4:16). So, there is no need to go to a priest for confession. For counseling, or advice perhaps, or maybe to settle a dispute. And I for one do not believe that Mr Ratzinger ha done anything to warrant being addressed as Holy Father(no disrespect intended). God however, is worthy of that title and will be the only one I call HOLY FATHER! And of course you know I love you rinnie; just as I love all of my Christian brothers and sisters. I am learning(by the grace of God, to love everybody whom I come into contact with(second greatest Commandment) And I’m sure that we will meet at the first and second Judgement seats, and spend eternity worshipping our Lord:thumbsup::

Great post and I agree with you 100%

Great post and I agree with you 100%
Thank you, tweety, nice to hear from you! You know, one of the greatest gifts God has given me, after Jesus, is humility! Being humble, is tough for humans, because of our poisonous pride, But the rewads one can derive(not earthly rewards) from being humble and obedient, are immeasurable.Regardless of who we are, or where we worship, we are all God’s precious creation, and He does not look upon with bias, prejudice, or envy; just love! I always enjoy your posts, and pray for you!😃

tweetymom, I don’t get it. If I’m not mistaken, you consider yourself Catholic, no? I mean no disrepect, but why be a Catholic if there is so much you don’t like about the CC?

None of us can truly know what is in tweety’s heart, aside from her Holy Father! But because I am in disagreement with so many thing of the catholic church, I have not converted!🙂

“every last penny shall be paid”

The answer “it has many interpretations”
So let me see those other interpretations. Lets examine them.

Jesus says in the Bible which some here says it is what they go by:rolleyes: That you have to be perfect. Yet those who do not believe in Purgatory say they are not perfect. How is this to be reconciled. Catholics believe we are made perfect through purgation. So how will you who do not believe in Purgatory be made perfect?

Believe it or not, indebtedness, can delay your separation from the military! Good friend of mine when I was active duty, got his discharged held up, until he paid all his debts. Jesus believed not only in using proper scales, when doing business, but He exhorted us not to be a lender or a borrower. So, one interpretation may have been, do not leave this earth owing anyone! My mother had numerous bills before she went to the hospital with a stroke. Three strokes later she was in a nursing home. We had to liquidate all of her assets, so that she could get Medicare(what a country!). Whe had money left over, but paid off all her outstanding bills. She is an incredible servant, and child of God, and she would have wanted it that way! I suppose it is possible to see Matthew 5:26-27, as comparing pennies to sins, but He doesn’t say in order to see Heaven.

It is important to remember that, even though Jesus told us that we must be perfect, as our Heavenly Father is perfect; I do not believe He meant our fleshly bodies. It is impossible for flesh to enter the Kingdom of God! And because we are human, He knows that no matter how hard we try, we are still vulnerable to falling short. And why, as humans, do we strive for perfection in our daily activities? Why do we have to have the perfect wife, kids, job, body? It doesn’t matter. When it;sall said and done, we will ALL be saints, united as one Body, praising and worshipping our Lord! And we should all know that nothing unclean will enter Heaven,we know that our God will clothe us in righteousness, to be like his Son!👍

Would you please tell me what Scripture that Jesus says not to be a lender or a borrower.
The Scripture says "Amen, I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny. Many leave this earth owing. Jesus said that they wouldn’t be released. So the question is how does Jesus saying you won’t be released fit into your interpretation?

Very good point the lB. Believe it or not that is Catholic teaching:D But beings that we do fall short, most of us, when it is our time to part this world we may have not reached that perfection quite yet. Thats why we believe in purgatory to cleanse us not only from all sin, but more importantly that desire to sin. Thats how we truly become perfect in Christ lose that desire.

We can sit here all we want and say we have no desires that can lead us to sin, But we would by lying. And thats what purgatory does gets rid of the desire to ever sin again. Thats how we become Saints in Christ and become perfect in CHrist with the final cleansing.

Some of us need a sponge bath, which makes our time in purgatory less. Others need a bubble bath, we need to stay awhile and soak. Oh geeze I am famous for my bubble baths:eek: Then again maybe I won’t need them in purgatory:D
