Is it correct to say that the process of purification in Purgatory also happens through Christ’s Sacrifice on the Cross?

I’d imagine so (since all grace comes to us through the Cross) but I can’t find any specific answers to this in the Catechism.

Just wanted to check because I said this a few times in discussions with people who were wondering about Purgatory.

thank you!

I am just speaking for myself Monica but I don’t think it is correct to say that the process of purification in Purgatory also happens through Christ’s Sacrifice on the Cross.
  1. Check out what the Catechism says
  2. Go to
    catholic.com/search/content/purgatory
and check out what is said there about Purgatory.

It’s probably not a good idea to make a claim about Church teaching unless you have orthodox proof that what you are saying is correct.

Hope this helps. 🙂

Yes, of course it does. Purgatory is the process of drawing closer to God, of being bathed in the flames of God’s love, of being cleansed of our sins and sinful appetites, by interior grace. This is only possible because of the Cross.
