Tonight we went to Mass at one of the Churches we frequent in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. I figured something was up when the pastor started whispering to the EHMCs when they came up to distribute Holy Communion. This church distributes under both species. After Communion, the pastor actually put the Hosts back into the tabernacle himself (previously the EMHCs did this) and then went on to purify the vessels. This took an extra couple of minutes. Then he went on to explain the Vatican decision on the purification of vessels for those Catholics who were not aware of the situation. I talked to the pastor after the Mass and told him that it made my heart feel good that he was complying with the new directive, instead of ignoring it. Now that the directive has been out there for a few weeks, does anyone else out there have a good news story on this change? I think that with all the negativity out there, that some positive news on obedience would be welcomed by all.

To paraphrase letters from two Southern California dioceses:

“What papal directive?”

Our parish implemented the new policy immediately after the 23 Oct letter was email to our priest. Not one question or objection from the people or EMHC - I am one. What gets me; the temporary approval expired 28 March 2005 and it took until 23 Oct 2006 to implement.
