Purity rings in the news

I just thought this story about celebraties wearing purity rings was really inspiring. It looks like the tide may be beginning to turn in favor of waiting for marriage. Here’s the link:

I love the idea of purity rings…my dd said she wants to buy one, but I’m not sure if she is too young to wear one? She is 12 yrs old…I guess one is never too young to wear something representing purity.

I love rings…I wish they had purity rings back when I was a teen. lol

I wore one from 18 to the day I got married at 24.

My parents gave it to me as a going to college gift to remind me of my promise to God. It is really pretty. I still have it. It is a .25 karat diamond band. Nothing extravagant. Back when I was 18 [6 years ago] they were just coming on the scene, so there weren’t many options for a spcial ring. My parents called it my “Engagement ring with God.”

I think the Jonas Brothers have really made it more mainstream for which I am eternally grateful. It really is something that is a good outward sign of one’s commitment to the faith.

Don’t really know a whole lot about the Jonas Brothers…my kids don’t care that much for their music…but, the irony of them wearing purity rings, is the latest cover on I believe Rolling Stone with them on it…and the lead singer’s pose looking somewhat provocative. I think their agent needs to coach them on how to appear pure in magazines also…like I recall the cover making them look like they were in their 20’s with these seemingly seductive looks on their faces. I just thought…gross, a 15 yr old boy (which is my son’s age) posing like this? I am grateful too that they wear purity rings, but they need to me mindful of the messages they send out. That was something my dd noticed…when we were watching entertainment tonight…that they pose in sexy ways, but they wear purity rings?

My two oldest DD’s, who are now in/just finished Graduate School bought theirs at their Catholic HS. Back then and even now in Grad School & their Sorority they concider it a status symbol.

One of the brothers just turned 16 but the other two are 19 and 20. I think it’s great that their faith and morals are still important to them. Bravo Jonas brothers. I read that Jordin Sparks wears one too.
