This has always kind of made me hesitant about Catholicism. Why consecrate to Mary when in Scripture, consecration has always been to God?

I can only think of two possibilities. 1) The Marian apparitions are fake. 2) The Marian apparitions are real and consecration is not meant to “steal” honor and souls from God but ask Mary for her intercessory protection.

Is there another reason for consecration?

“Consecration to the Mother of God,” says Pope Pius XII, “is a total gift of self, for the whole of life and for all eternity; and a gift which is not a mere formality or sentimentality, but effectual, comprising the full intensity of the Christian life - Marian life.” This consecration, the Pope explained, “tends essentially to union with Jesus, under the guidance of Mary.”

If consecration to Mary “tends essentially to union with Jesus, under the guidance of Mary,” as Pope Pius XII pointed out, we must remember that any gradual transformation into Christ requires a gradual loving acceptance of a greater share in His redeeming Cross.

So when we offer ourselves to Mary to lead us, to form us into the likeness of her Son, we are offering to let her lead us along the way of the Cross.

Consecration to Mary, then, requires a childlike simplicity and confidence, letting her lead one by the hand, trusting - regardless of what lies ahead - that she knows better than we what contributes most to God’s glory, our sanctification and the salvation of souls.

It is called “Consecration to Mary” for short, but the full name of this consecration is Consecration to Jesus, Through Mary. Mary always leads to her Son.

This website has some great information about the consecration according to St. Louis de Montfort:

And here is a website that has the daily prayers on the main page during popular consecration periods. The next consecration is on the Feast of the Assumption (Aug 15).

Intercession, you would have to read St Louis de Montfort to clearly understand. He’s clear in his understanding of Salvation.

These concerns are common in that your not understanding the liturgy or the history and formation in the Church. The focus is always Jesus Christ redemption, indicative in the mass. Catholics place more focus on the suffering which is basically absent in the protestant community when the Cross is absent or the Cross is blank. The contemplation becomes slightly re-focused on the risen Lord. Or as we see the Holy Spirit and being saved. Catholics know they are saved, they are in preparation of the Cross which is very real in this pilgrimage.

This is also indicative for example in the Stations of the Cross. There is no Risen Christ, its ends on the Crucifix.
