Pushy as in - if you want to be Catholic you need to follow the teachings?You don’t like the teachings don’t be Catholic nobody is forcing you. Are we not even allowed to speak out loud the teachings of the faith? Is that too pushy for you? We should just give up our faith because it offends you.

I am not sure what you mean specifically (the question was worded in rather peculiar way) but your proflie says that you are a wiccan, and I assume that you are probably talking about the Church’s view of witchcraft and wicca.

Let me say first of all that Catholics, through our three sources of faith, Holy Scipture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium, have reached certain logical, philosophical, and theological truths. A “truth” is not true if it is not objective, and Catholics therefore hold these things, particularly those in the twelve articles described in the Apostle’s Creed, to bear effect on all man kind, whether they like it or not.

One of those, however, is freedom of conscience. You can only be saved through the Church if you embrace it of your own free will (unless, of course, you die shortly after baptism, etc.). That said, the vast majority of Catholics recognise your right to believe whatever you want. You can believe that the sky is green if you like. We don’t punish other people for their beliefs.

You’re a wiccan. Fine. We may not believe that your belief system in a means of salvation, but we fully respect your choice to be a wiccan. We don’t hate you, so why hate us? Christ taught us to love one another, regardless of religion.

I hope this helps, but by judging by the tone and language, and indeed the question itself, in you original post, I doubt anything I or anyone says will change your mind.

Catholics don’t ask non-Catholics to follow Church teaching/Doctrine. However, if you say you are Catholic, you better darn well follow the what the Church says.

I see that you are Pagan. Take it from an ex-Pagan. Catholics are far less pushy than most Pagans.

Alright, as a person that is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, I think I need to point out a few things for you. First of all science deals with the empirical. Things you can touch, observe, smell, see, et cetra. Science is about the study of the natural world. It’s almost impossible to figure out how God works. If God wants something to happen, it does. So when we’re doing research, we tend to stick to only what we can observe and know follow set laws and patterns. Science does not attempt to prove that differing ways of life or belonging to another religion is ok. They can’t, that’s up to God.

As for masturbation, well God says don’t do it. So what do Catholics do? They don’t (or at least try with every ounce of their body) not to masturbate. Sure, you could argue that it is natural. But just because you CAN do something, DOESN’T mean you should. You can do a lot that you shouldn’t actually do. You can lie, you can steal, you can kill, you can cheat on your loved ones. Yet should you? I mean animals do ALL of that. Humans don’t. Our God tells us not to and as followers of God, we don’t.

As a side note about differing religions. I heard a really wonderful homily from a Priest. He told us a parable that really explains the proper attitude towards religions outside of Catholicism:

A farmer is taking his grain to the mill. In order to get this mill he has to figure out how to get around a massive hill. He has three choices. The first choice is the hardest. He can do it, but it would be very difficult for him. He’ll have to put forth all of his effort to go straight over the hill. The advantages of this is that it is the fastest way to get to the mill, even with all the toiling. His grain will still be fresh and the mill will be more than happy to accept it.

The second path is a little easier. It requires some sacrifice and hard work, but for the most part it is an easy path. It also takes a lot longer to get to the mill this way. If the farmer takes this route a lot of his grain will go bad and unusable. There’s no guarantee that his grain will be usable when he reaches the mill. The third path involves completely going around the hill. There’s no struggling, no effort, it’s easy and you won’t break a sweat. It is also the longest path, and your grain will not survive the trip. When you get to the mill, you will have nothing of value and your trip would have been completely worthless.

Now this priest went on to say that being an active member of the Catholic church means you take the first path. The hard road that is filled with sacrifice. It also means that if you really follow this path and not give up and take the second path (or even the third path) then you will have the greatest chance of going to heaven. If you aren’t a Catholic (or you don’t follow the churches teachings as well as you should), then you are on the second path. It does involve some difficulty, but it is easy. There is a chance that when you arrive you will be fine, but there’s also a strong chance that when you arrive at the gates, you’ll be turned back. Obviously the last road is for those that don’t believe or don’t really follow any religion at all. You’ll be spoiled, and you won’t have any chance to get in.

The Church does not believe that we are the only path towards heaven. We believe we have the best path, although the hardest path, to reach heaven (if you really follow Catholicism.) We also believe that people from other religions can make it too, but they will have had to take very,very, very good care of their souls in order to pass through the pearly gates.

Science proved all the wicca theories about the energy of the different crystals and pyramids.

Get some science books and read them before coming out with this mumbo-jumbo.

Why is a follower of Wicca pushing science? As a scientist I would have very little faith in Wicca as it is just as unempirical as any other Religion if not more so.
Perhaps something has happened in your life that is causing this “rub” against the Catholic Church, but you haven’t said a word about that.
