Put aside the holy bible, why we need a pope?
I need a comprehensive answer, thanks!🙂

Christians can never put aside the Bible. We need bishops, and a Supreme Bishop, because that is how Jesus set up his Church.

The Holy Bible IS God, Jesus. the Holy Spirit. The idea we could ‘put it aside’ is one of the reasons we need a Pope.

The Bible is one part of a greater whole of God’s revelation to man which we call Sacred Tradition. ST includes the writings of the OT prophets/patriarchs as well as the oral teachings and written words of the Apostles/some of their disciples/the Church Fathers along with the living Magisterium, which is all the bishops of the world united with the pope.

We have a hiearchy of bishops who are the successors of the Apostles through the laying on of hands. Of these the pope appoints cardinals, usually chosen from those who have been archbishops. We have a pope because Jesus entrusted the “keys of the kingdom” to St. Peter, making him Jesus “prime minister” who became the bishop of Rome. Jesus ascended to the Father, leaving St. Peter in charge of the Church along with the other Apostles. Each successive bishop of Rome has also been the successor of St. Peter as the earthly head of the Church to govern it and to decide matters of faith and morals along with his fellow bishops, with the pope having the final say–something like the president of the USA or the Prime Minister of England.

Catholics need the Pope so they don’t put away their Bibles. He is there to always make sure that theology is based on the Wisdom from the Bible, and there is always a proper interpretation of the Bible.

Jesus founded a Church to give us the sacraments. The Church needs a leader on earth.

A flock of sheep needs a shepherd, otherwise they would probably go astray and may not survive on their own.

This and more. Jesus is the King and head, but went back to heaven and left his flock in the care of the apostles, the first bishops. As St. Cyprian explains to establsih and maintain the unity of the bishops a single bishop(the bishop of Rome) is set forth as the one to which all other bishops and the faithful adhere. In addition the Church needs an independent earthly head both to advocate for the rights of Christians in general and avoid a situation like Anglicanism, where the Archbishop of Cantebury is chosen by a politician(not necessarily even a believer), and the interests of the state can interfere with the life of the Church. This is also the reason for the existence of the absurdly small, but politically autonomous Vatican City State.

Our Catholic Church, faith, and beliefs would be the same if the Bible had never been published. We are not a Bible based Church. The Bible is fruit of our tree. The Catholic Church existed for over 300 years with out the Bible. The New Testament is the diary of our Church. She lived it first, and taught it truths, ORAL TRADITON, SACRED TRADITON, AND TEACHING MAGISTERIUM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, before she wrote, and compliled the Bible. We would still have the letters to all the Churchs., even if God never called the Church to assemble the Bible. Basicly Jesus founded the Catholic Church, and sent us the Holy Spirit to guide it in all truth, and guaranteed it will last until the end of time. All of this happened before the Bible existed!

God being all wise, has willed that His Catholic Church to be set up this way. God is a God of order. Therefore we have a Church with structure. He established a Pope, starting with Saint Peter, and bishops/Priests, the Apostles, to teach, lead, administer sacraments, and spread the gospel to the world in the Name of Jesus. Which means with Jesus’ authority. The Catholic Church is God’s gift to us; our inheritance to bring us back into loving unity with God.

God gave us a Pope/leadership to facilitate unity. People fight against this idea, because they “hate” anyone to have authority over them. Everybody wants to be their own pope, and decide “what is true for them”. But that only leads to millions of differing beliefs.

Jesus is a God of UNITY. The Holy Trinity lives in Unity, because it’s members willingly submit to each other’s authority. Jesus submits to God the Father, The Holy Spirit submits to both. There is no jealousy. They serve each other, working together for their united goals! So too is the structure of the Church. We serve each other in Unity of the Holy Spirit.

God gave us Popes, Bishops, Priests, and lay leaders, not to “lord it over” each other, but to SERVE EACH OTHER IN THE OFFICE GOD HAS CALLED THEM TO. God has a plan to reveal himself, over time, to all people. He has chosen to invite us all to participate in bringing His Kingdom to the world through His Church which He established, called, and blessed for every good work.

Jesus is the head, and the Catholic Church and her believers are his body! Those who reject God’s gift of the Catholic Church, and say, “I only want Jesus.” Have decapitated Jesus Christ! They have cut off, and discarded, the living, breathing, Spirit filled, dispenser of the truth, and wisdom of God, His body. When they fail to humble them selves as little children, eager to learn, and be fed, by the “pillar and foundation of the truth,” which is the Catholic Church, they fail to find their true place with in the Catholic Church. This lack of UNITY with Jesus’ Catholic Church, leads to poverty. They suffer poverty, when they miss out on the “fullness of the faith” which Jesus has gifted to His Church. The Catholic Church suffers poverty, because she is missing the gifts, talents, and (name removed by moderator)ut of her seperated brotheren.

It is a poverty to not experience the grace of being forgiven in Sacramental Confession.

It is poverty to not recieve into our bodies, our Lord Jesus Christ, who comes to us miraculously in the Eucharist!

It is a poverty to not have the Teaching Magisterium to guide you in the faith, to understand the meaning of Sacred Scripture, and to have access to “the deposit of faith” which God has revealed to His Church for over 4000 years!

The point of the Pope is the unity of Christ’s flock. He is at the service of unity.

Because anarchy is a self-defeating concept.

It doesn’t really matter if you want a leader or not, because there will be a leader no matter what. If we didn’t have a Pope, then people would be following their favourite charismatic bishop or theologian (not that this does’t happen already). Why? Because figuring out everything for yourself is hard, and so it’s easier to follow someone who’s already got a system figured out.

Two, it’s practical. There needs to be a supreme figure to settle arguments. That’s why in every fair judicial system there is a Supreme Court that gets to have the final say.

Three, living tradition in a person. It’s why monarchies are attractive, because the monarch is the living connection to all of a country’s history.

Fourth, because it’s Biblically based and commanded by Jesus. If they don’t think that something commanded by Jesus is important, then I don’t really know if we could call them a Christian at all.
