Pope Francis very warmly met with Netanyahu who presented His Holiness with a Candelabra, I will respect the Honesty and Good of the Holy Father and Netanyahu.

Putin is simply echoing the arrogant and cantankerous stance taken by the Russian Orthodox leadership towards the Pope and the Vatican.

The Russian Orthodox have long been the most difficult of the Orthodox to work with. They could learn a few things by imitating the example of Bartholomew.

The Bloomberg headline was inappropriate. The two men meeting at all sent the proper signal from the Church. As someone who is part Ukrainian, I know how nationalistic Ukrainian people are. It is not logical to assume that the mines, shells and other ordnance being used by “the rebels” came from nowhere. The Pope was speaking to the right man about peace.

God bless Pope Francis.

Yinz guys are making way too much out of a silly photograph. Regardless, I’m not changing my opinion. It looked like weaselly Putin was being scolded by his school teacher.

He meets everyone warmly publicly. But considering the things he’s done like praying at the wall, I don’t think he would appreciate everything Mr. Apartheid buses does.

👍

They should have them! But they don’t use threats which would include harming women and children. All of my Russian friends agree too, they see being Russian as being more than defending Totalitarian States!
Well they are a minority!

Right. I introduced it because I thought it was funny. Maybe not LOL ROFL HAR-DEE-HAR-HAR funny, but more like a smirk of amusement. But that’s that. I thought it was funny because it looked to me like Putin was being chided. I didn’t give a flippin’ flapjack about the historical tensions between Catholics and the Orthodox and in absolutely no way did I mean to try to draw any sort of allegory, metaphor, or simile between the photo and whatever is happening in the world of geopolitical theology.

Every other time Putin meets a world leader he has a twinkle in his eye, as if he’s thinking, ‘I could kill you with this pencil, you silly Westerner.’ This was the first one I saw where it looked like Putin was not playing the alpha.

Does he? That Eurocrat that slapped Orban sounds like what you are describing.

Though one wouldn’t know for certain, I’d say you can look at this photo and make various conclusions:

Meeting Netanyahu:

Anyway, plenty of photos are to be found of meeting both, I saw some of Pope Benedict with Netanyahu.

One might remember when the Pope went to Israel last year, it was also very much to make peace in general in the region.

Interesting how one can " read" photos differently…
My reading was spountaneously based on the focus when listening to speakers who are speaking in a different language. Or being translated…
I thought " how difficult is the accent in this photo ? Was there much noise around to focus ?" And that sort of thing, kind of thinking that I tend to look downwards when paying more attention .Not in informal conversations but when I need to understand.
When the accent is difficult I also tend to try and read the lips as well.
Maybe I was just scanning photos without getting too much into the topic too.
Funny though how we can see different things.
