The Pope is the Boss!!!-

II. Bishops and the Apostolic See
  1. (a) To bishops, as successors of the Apostles, in the dioceses entrusted to them, there belongs per se all the ordinary, proper, and immediate authority which is required for the exercise of their pastoral office. But this never in any way infringes upon the power which the Roman pontiff has, by virtue of his office, of reserving cases to himself or to some other authority.

This is how the Pope really feels about it…

“The leader of more than a billion Roman Catholics suggested that fears over man-made emissions melting the ice caps and causing a wave of unprecedented disasters were nothing more than scare-mongering.”

Humanity today is rightly concerned about the ecological balance of tomorrow," he said in the message entitled “The Human Family, A Community of Peace”."It is important for assessments in this regard to be carried out prudently, in dialogue with experts and people of wisdom, uninhibited by ideological pressure to draw hasty conclusions, and above all with the aim of reaching agreement on a model of sustainable development capable of ensuring the well-being of all while respecting environmental balances.
"If the protection of the environment involves costs, they should be justly distributed, taking due account of the different levels of development of various countries and the need for solidarity with future generations.

I’ve posted this before…

guardian.co.uk/world/2007/apr/27/catholicism.religion
The Vatican yesterday added its voice to a rising chorus of warnings from churches around the world that climate change and abuse of the environment is against God’s will, and that the one billion-strong Catholic church must become far greener.
At a Vatican conference on climate change, Pope Benedict urged bishops, scientists and politicians - including UK environment secretary David Miliband - to “respect creation” while “focusing on the needs of sustainable development”.
The Pope’s message follows a series of increasingly strong statements about climate change and the environment, including a warning earlier this year that “disregard for the environment always harms human coexistence, and vice versa”.
Observers said yesterday that the Catholic church is no longer split between those who advocate development and those who say the environment is the priority. Cardinal Renato Raffaele Martino, head of the Pontifical Council of Justice and Peace, said: “For environment … read Creation. The mastery of man over Creation must not be despotic or senseless. Man must cultivate and safeguard God’s Creation.”
According to Vatican sources, the present Pope is far more engaged in the green debate than John Paul. In the past year Benedict has spoken strongly on the need to preserve rainforests. In the next few weeks he visits Brazil.
“There is no longer a schism. The new interest in climate change and the environment is not surprising really. Benedict comes out of 1960s Germany, where environment and disarmament were major issues. It’s conceivable that his ministry could even culminate in a papal encyclical on the environment,” said one analyst. This would be the most powerful signal to the world’s Catholics about the need for environmental awareness at every level.
The Catholic church is just one major faith group now rapidly moving environment to the fore of its social teachings. “Climate change, biotechnology, trade justice and pollution are all now being debated at a far higher level by the world’s major religions,” said Martin Palmer, secretary general of the Alliance of Religions and Conservation (Arc).

Show me the statement where the Church says we have a moral obligation to believe in AGW and I’ll accept that this is a moral issue. In the absence of such a statement, however, I will continue to believe not only that global warming is not a moral issue but those who claim it is simply don’t understand what the term properly means.
As I said, nothing more than the political preferences of the authors.

**Moral duty to combat climate change, Vatican envoy tells UN **(Subscribe to RSS Feed)
New York, Sep. 25, 2007 (CWNews.com) -
Climate change is “a serious concern and an inescapable responsibility,” a Vatican envoy told the UN General Assembly.
Speaking at a session on climate problems, Msgr. Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s under-secretary for Relations with States, left no doubt about the Holy See’s commitment to environmental protection, emphasizing “the underlying moral imperative that everyone, without exception, has a grave responsibility to protect the environment.”
While demanding effective action to avert ecological disaster, Msgr. Parolin called for a balanced and careful approach. He said that scientific evidence shows “a link between human activity and climate change.” However, he said, the strength of that evidence “should neither be exaggerated nor minimized in the name of politics, ideologies, or self-interest.”
Similarly, the Vatican representative cautioned against extreme reactions to the problem of climate change. On one hand he condemned the “fundamentally reckless approach” taken by those who would exploit the world’s resources without regard to the environmental consequences.
On the other hand, Msgr. Parolin rebuked other activists “who hold up the earth as the only good, and would characterize humanity as an irredeemable threat to the earth.” That extreme approach, he noted, “would place human beings and their needs at the service of an inhuman ecology.”
The Vatican representative called for coordinated efforts by the world’s nations to resolve the problem of climate change, observing that "we need to overcome self-interest through collective action."

Enough of this sillyness. Under-secretaries, or Vatican Envoy’s do not supercede the words of the Pope. The Pope’s words were:

“respect creation” while “focusing on the needs of sustainable development”. I dont think the Pope would advise America to alter its form of govornment for what he feels are ultimately “scare-mongoring” tactics by American leftists. Cap and Trade is wrong!

And why the cheap shot?: “Reading the article and not just the title” I’ve read the whole article???

I do believe in the flood, and I believe you are right!!!
I believe in the FATIMA prophecy also. Unfortunately, I’m afraid, others seem to want earthly fulfillment over spiritual.

Poor people contribute least to the causes, but will suffer most from the effects of climate change:
Urge your members of Congress to significantly increase funding for international adaptation programs in climate change legislation
Again with the nonsense about the poor. No, I will urge Congress to spend their time on real issues, not made up nonsense about man-made global warming, which is now euphemistically referred to as “climate change.” Help the poor, but stop dragging them into your obsession with something that does not exist.

I’m all about social justice and the environment!:thumbsup:I’m all over it! But, I have to concede to the “global warming/climate change is a myth” thing. The Holy Father does not support it. Being a (hopefully) good follower of B16, neither can I. However, he does say.
This having been said, it is also necessary to reject the opposite position, which aims at total technical dominion over nature, because the natural environment is more than raw material to be manipulated at our pleasure; it is a wondrous work of the Creator containing a “grammar” which sets forth ends and criteria for its wise use, not its reckless exploitation.( vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/encyclicals/documents/hf_ben-xvi_enc_20090629_caritas-in-veritate_en.html )

I do not know why or how I missed that. So, now I can go back to my original position. and like an immature little kid, stick my tongue out and say ‘nyaah’! to all the naysayers.
But, I mean that in a positive way. 😛
I knew it! But, there were so many people coming back with that Rush Limbaugh smugness that I just felt overwhelmed. You are my hero!

Oops!

Looks like a bunch of German scientists are now saying that man-made climate change (or man-made global warming … or whatever the current Politically Correct buzz word du jour is) is, in fact, bogus.

In fact, some of the German scientists were even so-called IPCC scientists.

Big oops.

climatedepot.com/a/2282/Consensus-Takes-Another-Hit-More-than-60-German-Scientists-Dissent-Over-Global-Warming-Claims-Call-Climate-Fears-Pseudo-Religion-Urge-Chancellor-to-reconsider-views

No point in “taking action on climate change to protect the poor” … if there is no actual need to take action on climate change.

Here are a few direct quotes:

More than 60 prominent German scientists have publicly declared their dissent from man-made global warming fears in an Open Letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The more than 60 signers of the letter include several United Nations IPCC scientists.

The scientists declared that global warming has become a “pseudo religion” and they noted that rising CO2 has “had no measurable effect” on temperatures. The German scientists, also wrote that the “UN IPCC has lost its scientific credibility.”

This latest development comes on the heels of a series of inconvenient developments for the promoters of man-made global warming fears, including new peer-reviewed studies, real world data, a growing chorus of scientists dissenting (including more UN IPCC scientists), open revolts in scientific societies and the Earth’s failure to warm. In addition, public opinion continues to turn against climate fear promotion. (See “Related Links” at bottom of this article for more inconvenient scientific developments.)

GENEVA (AFP) – Roman Catholics in two southern Swiss Alpine communities want to give up a centennial tradition of praying for the retreat of mountain glaciers and switch to prayers against climate change instead.

“A lot of ice has melted,” parish priest Pascal Venetz told the Swiss news agency SDA on Thursday.

Father Venetz is seeking the approval of Pope Benedict XVI for the change on behalf of his parishioners and an audience for the local bishop is reportedly being arranged in Rome.

It would seem that several groups are taking this climate change thing seriously. I wonder why certain groups want to see it dismissed as some sort of error? Could it be that they are afraid of something? I do not know what that would be. But, it seems like a good idea to make some changes in the way we are treating our planet. Regardless of whether global warming or cooling or change is real or not. Conservative types always resist change. I suppose they have either no hope or no confidence in human judgment.

You are right - there is great deal of support on behalf of the faithful working to ensure that we act in a way that keeps the needs of the poor at the heart of the dialogue… I think there is always room to discuss just how this can be done - looking at both short term loss and possible sacrifice vs long term gain and possibly reversing trends -

Board of NOCERCC Endorses Catholic Climate Convenant
Earlier in the spring, the Executive Director of the National Organization for Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy (NOCERCC) endorsed the Catholic Climate Covenant. At a recent meeting, the NOCERCC Board of Directors also backed the Catholic Climate Covenant. This endorsement continues to demonstrate that the Covenant project is satisfying a hunger for authentically Catholic approaches to care for God’s gift of creation and the most vulnerable people impacted by climate change

It is not the position of the Catholic Church or Pope Benedict that governments need to do more to regulate CO2 emissios. Those that deny what I have said are denying the truth.

**mpi is the ultimate authority?

darn:blush:I thought I knew everything.—(just joshin’, dude!:D-it was the “Those who deny what I said…” statement!👍)

I suppose that what you mean by this is that The Holy Father is not saying that it is the governments responsibility to reduce our carbon footprints, but the responsibility of the individual. Is that what you are saying?**
I might actually buy into that…show us, please? oh ultimate authoritative one!

The promotion of sustainable development and particular attention to climate change are indeed matters of grave importance for the entire human family, and**** no nation ****or business sector should ignore them.
