Putting written prayer intentions under statues of saints

Okay I have a pretty strong devotion to Our lady, St Therese and I am working on my devotion to St Joseph. I know lots of people often write intentions and put them under under statues of saints for their intercession. I want to try to get into this particular way of praying, just wondering if anyone here that practice this devotion. I have this ipieta app that is actually really handy in terms of prayers.
 
If it’s not my statue, I wouldn’t feel comfortable in touching it, and especially not in moving it to put anything under it. If it’s my own statue in my own house-- that would be fine.

Anecdote: Our priest (who has been a priest for 50+ years) told us a story once, about how his childhood parish priest had put the names of certain altar boys with potential on a piece of paper, and had put it behind the tabernacle of one of the side altars of his church. Every one of those boys on the list went on to be ordained a priest-- including himself.
 
My mother told me when I was a child to put my prayer to St. Therese the Little Flower at the base of the statue or under it. I had a great love for St. Therese and would go to 'talk" to her when ever I was in need of a friend.I would tell her what was wrong in a note and it always disappeared, mom told me St.Therese took it to heaven, of course I know now mom had a hand in it. That statue is still in my home.and I still leave little notes,also if I go into a church that has a statue of St.Therese I always i leave her a message.I do not think there is anything wrong with I think its a beautiful practice and when you pray and leave a note you may be assured they will read it. Some cultures are very big on leaving notes or little gifts like a rosary or milagro for a saint or the Virgin Mary. I am not from that culture, but did this once as a child - left a note under a Mary statue - with my mom’s encouragement. It did disappear and I remember being happy and a little excited that Mary read my note. I was 4 at the time.

As an adult I’ve been to shrines where they encourage you to leave written petitions for Mary or saints and provide baskets or slots to drop them. The petitions are collected every so often and offered up in some way, by being offered at Mass and then burned, or something similar. I usually participate in leaving the writhen petition in those cases.

I’ve been to other shrines where they specifically request that you NOT leave notes or anthing else around the statues or relics. I presume this is because it is a job to clean up or there is an issue with having people going into certain areas of the shrine or touching the statues. In those cases I just say the prayer and do not need to leave the written note.

The Irish and the Hispanics do this, among others. It’s fine. Leave anything you fine alone.
 
At Churches and shrines, go for it. For your own statues, go for it. It’s a form of prayer and a very effective one.

Just don’t go to your priest’s house and put a confession under the crucifix. It might be bad.
 
When Pope Francis came to Manila in 2015 he shared about his practice of placing petitions under the sleeping statue of St. Joseph. After that, many Filipinos started buying that particular statue of St. Joseph. Yes, I also put notes of prayer intentions under the statues of saints in my home.
