We may be moving to the SE WI area (I-43 corridor - Sugar Creek). I would like to find a good solid conservative Church in this area. I’m not looking for a Latin Mass, just one where they don’t use more than one or two EMHC. It must (this should go without saying) it should be rectangular, real pews w/ kneelers, have the tabernacle up high and centered behind the altar with a large crucifix above. No “risen Christ” and no side chapels. I’m also hoping for a Catholic school attached. I’ve heard horror stories about WI public schools. Any suggestions? Could be either Madison or Milwaukee diocese.

thanks

Sorry, but this comes across really uppity.

With the shortage of priests in Wisconsin, I would suggest you be grateful that there are Masses available and try not to get so caught up in finding the perfect Church. We share a priest with two other parishes and they are 50 miles apart from end to end. Our parish isn’t perfect, but we kinda like it.

But it’s your call on how picky you get. Maybe you like driving long distances. I suggest you visit several in the area you are considering living in and find one that you like.
I’ve heard horror stories about WI public schools.
Like any place, there are good schools and bad schools. Having taught in the Texas public school system myself, I’ve heard (and seen) plenty of horror stories of my own.

What, specifically, have you heard that is a ‘horror story’ about Wisconsin schools?
Any suggestions?
Well, try not to be so negative and insulting about your future home state before you even get here.
Could be either Madison or Milwaukee diocese.
Both Bishop Morlino and Bishop Listecki are great!

I live in Wisconsin and am rather surprised that you’ve heard horror stories about the public schools. Are you referring to Milwaukee specifically? Milwaukee has had some problems, but Wisconsin overall has good public schools. Where I live, we have excellent schools.

I second the previous poster about Listecki. He was my Bishop before Milwaukee received their good fortune.

I also second the poster as far as in what you’re looking for. The parish I attend wouldn’t meet some of your requirements, but the priest is very much in love with God, and I have grown a lot since going there.

I don’t have a parish suggestion but I live in SE Wisconsin about 25 min west of Milwaukee and have found it very Catholic friendly here, especially in comparison to Chicago which is where I grew up. The population of WI is largely Catholic only second to Lutheran.

I’m baffled by what you’ve heard about WI schools because we are known for having good schools in Wisconsin. Yes Milwaukee schools have some issues but overall the schools are good. I actually took my kids out of Catholic school here to send them to public (because of the school culture, so so acedemics and high pricetag). I’ve been nothing but pleased and I have high standards 😉

I hope you find a home parish you are happy with.

It’s actually both horror stories and experience. Both my sister and brother attended one of the Madison High Schools and, although before they moved there they were fairly conservative, they graduated and are still (20 years later) extremely liberal. My wife’s family is up there and most have their kids in private school because the local districts are more about indoctrination (homosexuality, sex/birth control, environmentalism, etc.) than basics. Too bad they are too far out west of Madison. Even Elkhorn schools made the news about its innovative way to teach, using role-play, about homosexuality in English class (year, maybe two ago). If we make this move, it has to be either Catholic or maybe we’ll begin homeschooling. Now, if someone knows of a public school district that is solidly conservative, I might consider it. I know there are some troubled districts in TX but the school our kids go to is very conservative.

As for the requirements being “uppity”, I don’t think so. I consider this to be a bare minimum. I thought this would give me a pretty decent base to work from. I also would want to find a church where Gregorian Chant is the norm and they don’t use guitars, tambourines, drums, etc. I have heard that there is a Latin high and low mass said at St. Stanislaus but I don’t want to live in town or spend an hour commuting.

There’s St. Stanislaus for Mass in Latin, the Newman Center at UWM (if Fr. Lightner is still there), Ss. Peter and Paul…yeah there’s actually a lot. If you get anywhere near Marquette’s campus, I have it on good authority that Mass on campus is lead by some strong seminarians and their teachers.

I haven’t been to Mass in the Madison Diocese for a long time, but so long as Bishop Morino (spelling?) is there, you can’t go wrong.

The minor basilica at Holy Hill might be just what you’re looking for.

As far as Wisconsin schools, outside of inner-city Milwaukee, most are great. I wouldn’t worry too much about liberal indoctrination in a school system, if you’re doing your job as a parent your example will have far more impact on your child than any teache(s) will. Wisconsin is an interesting state - quite liberal in the south (and the people tend to be either well-educated or below the pverty line), quite conservative (and blue collar - with less highs or lows) in the north. Outside of the MKE ghetto, there isn’t anywhere I wouldn’t consider living, and nowhere that I would hesitate to send my kids to school.

:o May I answer this question with another question and please receive an answer to my question? Is to be… ‘conservative’ ‘tradition’ etc. actually our FAITH…? 🤓

to answer your question - YES!

Its now definite and we need prayers. We have to sell our home in San Antonio asap.

As for the church, we’re still up in the air. We are also looking at St. Mary’s in Burlington as it at least looks like it is the place to be. I would also like to locate in the Sauk City area. It looks like both St. Aloysius and St. Norbert are great. We watched the Christmas TLM on youtube from St. Norbert and felt more inspired that I can remember. Lucky for me I can live anywhere from the Dells down to Springfield IL for this job. Now to just sell my house and find one up there!!!

Okay. I am born and raised Wisconsinite. So I’m trying not to take offense at your rip at WI schools, but I’m okay. I actually went to a Lutheran school. I think no matter where you are you’re going to run into liberal schools. It’s not just Wisconsin. I’d actually think it’d be worse on the West coast. But I’m not going to generalize.

Anyways, good luck with your search. I don’t have much suggestion as I live in Northeast WI.

I’m a transplant to WI and I can see the OP’s point! Milwaukee is the archidiocese that gave us the most recent abuse scandal…😊 There are some conservative areas if you look for them.

Any how…I’d be happy to help you out OP, just PM me 🙂
