I would agree with you that priestesses would be a mark of apostasy; however, it surprises me that you would go in the direction of a Protestant church. That hypothetical course of events would send me Eastward to an Orthodox Church, where I would still be sure of the Sacraments and of Apostolic Succession.
Personally, I don’t believe that the Catholic Church would take that route, so I’m not losing sleep over it.
