When does asking God a qeustion become a sin?
Can i ask him why the world is round? or why he did not tell us about evolution?

In the bible, God said test me. In jacobs ladder, he is wreslting with God?

So when God or people say do not qeustion God, what does he mean?

I would say that it depends on the question.

“Why did You allow that? Help me understand…” is a whole lot different from “Why did You do that? It was really stupid.”

When I have unanswered questions, I like to say I put them in my 1 Cor 13:12 file. “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”

Questioning God is not a sin, I believe by questioning God we become closer to Him. And even if we do cross that line we can still become closer to Him, for without sin, or free will how close could we get, only as close as he programs us to be.

Take a look at the Bible

Jesus selected 12 ordinary men.

Peter denied he knew Jesus three times yet he was destined to be the first Pope.

Thomas doubted Jesus but I believe he had a faith so much deeper than the other apostles.

So even if we are odds with God, or do not understand Him at times by questioning Him we are still talking to Him.

Don’t worry about asking Him questions, or even occasionally blowing your top off at Him in anger, as I have at times. (You ask your father questions or get angry with him at times, don’t you?)

Just as long as your interaction with Him is honest, you will be on good ground.

There is a big difference in questioning somebody, in order to learn, as opposed to “judging” somebody.

As one poster said, if we are asking God what He wishes of us, or how to do His will, that is good.

If we are asking Him WHY He did an action, when what we are really thinking or meaning is, “if I were God I would have done something else”, then we are either putting ourselves above God or judging Him as at best “honestly wrong” or at worst evil. NOT good.

Very Good philosophy. All glory to God. I sometimes think in anger, and ask God why? But i have now realised that when we get angry at God, we are actually acusing him of sin! We saying that God is not good, perfect, and loving. In future im just gonna ask God to give me understanding, rather then be angry with him.

I geuss we just have to trust, that God is all the things that he says he is, rather then doubt, and become satans messengers. Satan is a liar.

Have you noticed that, when somthing bad happens, most people always blame God, and satan never gets a mention.

I wholeheartedly agree with this.
I have been angry with God before and questioned him. I of course later apologized, not out of a feeling I had sinned, but as a child being reconciled with his father and saying he was sorry.

There is a point when questioning God is no longer asking questions, but merely questioning His authority and rebelling (does the name Lucifer ring a bell?)
Rebellion is angry pride
Questioning is just that: asking why?

Jesus said seek and you shall find.

Reverence for God is essential.

In the bible, God said test me.
Malachi 3:10 **“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, and let there be food in my house. And test me about this, says the Lord, as to whether I will not open to you the floodgates of heaven, and pour out to you a blessing, all the way to abundance.”**God is inviting us to test Him about the rewards we will receive from Him if we tithe. 😛

On the other hand, Jesus said in Matthew 4:7 “You shall not put the LORD your God to the test.” See also CCC2119 christusrex.org/www1/CDHN/comm1.html

What does that mean? 🙂
Seek and you shall find. When you have a question about the Faith you won’t find the answer if you just shrug and forget it.

I questioned if God existed; if Christianity was the way God wanted to be worshipped; if the Catholic Church was the one treu Church handed down to us from the apostles and eventually found the answer to all these questions was YES.

The next difficulty I had was about contraception. For many years I just shrugged and accepted the Church’s teaching but never really sought to understand why it taught what it did. When I eventually did seek to understand (so I could then explain to a Protestant friend) I found the answer.

This happens a lot to me too. I have a tendency to receive from the Lord far more often when I am seeking for someone else, not just for myself.

But when I do receive for myself, it is usually a harder path. I have to seek and seek and seek, and knock and knock and knock, and ask and ask and ask. Generally, I have to “need” the answer badly enough for me to pursue the answer diligently and long enough. I suspect the Holy Spirit is not inclined to offer insight into spiritual mysteries merely to sate one’s curiosity.

“Reverence for God is essential”

From Mer-Web dictionary - Reverence = honor or respect felt or shown

I think this is an important point. In my opinion it is not okay to just blow up / get mad at my (human) father. It is okay to tell him how I feel, what I think, ask him why is this, etc., but not to get angry. And I must respect whenever he chooses keeps his reasons from me. And I should never insult him when I speak to him. I can ‘wrestle’ with him in that I can have a disagreement with him and try to come to common understanding, or even in the end we might agree to disagree, but in the end I shouldn’t hold grudges or let it come to blows (fist fights) or anything. Etc. So if this is the respect owed to my human father, then at least this much respect is owed to God.

It is hard to make sure that I always keep up this respect for God when I’m not happy with something and when I’ve got these questions and etc. and I have failed before. But I have to make the effort. Storming angrily into prayer to yell at God is not going to get me anywhere, I have to calm myself down so I can talk about things rationally with God.

Don’t question His teachings and will.
