This reminded me A LOT of “The Petrified Forest” (with Humphrey Bogart and Bette Davis) and wondering if anyone else saw the similarities?

PF takes place in a remote diner.
H8 takes place in remote diner/“habdashery”

PF involves hostages
H8 involved hostages (Smithers, specifically)

PF is post-war (WWI)
H8 is post-war setting (Civil War)

PF is very, very talky - lots of stories
H8 is very, very talky - lots of stories

etc., etc.

I could go on. There’s no way QT has not seen “The Petrified Forest.”

I decided not to see the film due to the law enforcement boycott, based on his statements against police officers.

I will likely see it, but have not seen Petrified Forest, so your spoilers didn’t really matter.

I haven’t seen The Petrified Forest in several years, but I don’t remember it being as violent as Hateful8!

(SPOILER) The first two hours of “Hateful 8,” notwithstanding the Kurt Russell bounty hunter’s none-too-hospitable treatment of the female prisoner played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, is not terribly violent except for those two and also when Samuel L. Jackson eggs on the Confederate general with the sick story about his son – but other than that? The final hour, probably starting at the “Daisy’s Got a Secret” chapter (which I think is after the intermission in the “roadshow” version) – now, that’s where it REALLY starts. And, yes, the Channing Tatum character kinda sorta reminds me of Humphrey Bogart in “Petrified Forest” – he (Bogart) wasn’t exactly the nicest guy in his movies (especially not in “Maltese Falcon.”)

Hateful Eight was good. I just wish they wouldn’t say GD so much in the film.

Did you notice how Ruth (Kurt Russell) was the only character who wasn’t swearing so much? And he would say “black fella” instead of the N-word. I wonder if QT let him ad-lib through the script if he wanted.

I think QT likes to be as offensive as possible!
Well, he reportedly cut some lines Mannix (the to-be sheriff) was saying about South Carolina. The movie was in post-production when the LOSER flag controversy was going on and I guess he (QT) didn’t want any more controversy.

I don’t remember, but I remember Tarantino protesting against the police not long ago and supporting black lives matter so it surprises me that he uses the N word so freely!
