Hello all,

I’m an altar server for the TLM, and am in need of a new cassock. I’d like one that doesn’t use “snap” buttons- the pressure of unsnapping and snapping on the buttons caused them to rip off on my last one.

Anyone know a quality online retailer for this? I tried Leaflet Missal, but they use the snap kind.

Don’t you love that lovely “snap snap snap snap” sound as you go from kneeling to standing in the middle of mass:D

Those Toomey and Abbey brand server’s cassocks are fairly inexpensive looking and they are rarely the right length for each individual. For not too much more I would recommend an Almy server’s cassock. Sadly you have to order an Almy catalog (free) to actually see one as they don’t show them on their website. I’m sure you could order one of the phone.

Upper-end Roman cassocks often have 33 buttons – one for every year of Jesus’ life incarnate here on Earth.

Hello,

I would like to say that I have had an RJ Toomey cassock for years, with many dry cleanings, and it holds up well. It has 22 buttons which I believe, like you, is much better that the snap-ons. I wouldn’t have a problem getting another, but it would be interesting to see what Almy has to offer. Just my two cents.

Hmm… personally I use a server cassock with a zip that just goes down to around the half way point. Makes for easier vesting while praying the vesting prayers and helping out with the preparations before mass. Shared button server cassocks have a nasty habit of having the top button dropping off. 😛 And even normal buttons crack if one is not careful 😉

Formosus, Charbel Vestments supplies vestments used by the TLM community in Singapore, and the quality is outstanding.

Velcro? Now that’s just tacky 😃
LOL! That was bad…

Post the requirements here. There might be others who would be interested in knowing, so they could make them for their own parish, family, or friends. What are the specifications concerning length, material, and anything we need to know about making them?

They vary; the one I ended up purchasing was Abbey Brand, which seems to be the “standard” cassock. Nice black buttons, and very warm. I heartily recommend it.

Okay, thanks. I’ll ask at my parish what they require. Glad you found one. It sounds very nice.
