Jeremiah 7:19 Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?

Jeremiah 7:20 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

Well using scripture to refute you is easy. I will stay in the 7th chapter of Jeremiah.
Cherrying picking verses to say the Virgin Mother is Asherah is insulting. And should be beneath the dignity of a Christian.

Please read the beginning of the chapter 7. God instructs Jeremiah to stand at the gate and call the people to repent. God list several sins of the people. Human sacrifice (Verse 6) and worshiping other gods (vs 6). The other gods are identified (vs9) as Baal or Bhaal. The cannanite goddess who is called the queen of heaven is Asherah. Ishtar is the Babylonian. Just read the opening verses to get the context of the verses you quoted.

Reading scripture in a vaccum will cause you to mis interpret and make false assumptions and charges. Like you have done here. I would advise you to take a simple survey of the Old Testament course. If you are close to New Orleans, the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary has a great one with Dr. Archie Englund. After his class, no baptist seminary student worth his salt would ever make this simple but insulting mistake again. I would suggest a Catholic one, but I do not think you would be as accepting of it as a Southern Baptist one by the track record of your postings.

I would suggest you obtain a copy of the the Catechism of the Catholic Church to read and study. It will help you understand and know what the Church teaches. You may not agree, you may still argue against the teachings of the Church, but you can then be able to do so in an intelligent and logical manner.

By the way, I am an Anglican. I dislike protestants misrepresenting what catholics teach and catholics what protestants teach. The old strawmen and mis-characterizations do nothing to bring about unity.

Perhaps because it is your interpretation of the above scripture that is false. You do not even give your interpretation of the scripture, but instead leave us to assume that you interpret it in the same [erroneous] way that we have seen before. Because Jeremiah 7 is talking about a “queen of heaven”, it is up to you to prove that Catholics referring to Mary as the “Queen of Heaven” is equating her with the “queen of heaven” in Jeremiah 7. Since it is you, not us, that makes that equivalence, it is up to you to prove it.

1. Do Catholics make cakes to Mother Mary? Not that I have ever heard of.
2. Does Catholic doctrine view Mother Mary as a Goddess or Divine? No.
3. Why is Mother Mary titled the Queen of Heaven (and Earth) and of various other things? Because Jesus is King/Lord and, look back in your Bible, the mother of the King (i.e. Solomon’s mother) was called a Queen? Thus, Mother Mary, whose Son is Lord of Lords and King of Kings, is thus titled Queen? In English, the term Queen-Mother might be used…

your fallacy lies in the fact that Jeremiah is decrying the fact that the people are worshipping a false goddess, a mythical creature upon they themselves have given the designation Queen of Heaven.

God Himself chose Mary as the mother of his Son through whom he would take on his human nature, and God Himself assumed her body and soul into heaven and crowned her queen. If you are looking for a type of Mary in the OT look to the queen mother of the Davidic kings.

The subject line clearly asks whether “you” (thread readers) are the queen of heaven. The first post appears to narrow down “queen of heaven” to the one mentioned by the Prophet St. Jeremiah.

My answer is the same as adstrinity’s reply: I’m not the “queen of heaven” about which Jeremiah spoke.

I would also add that I am not any of the other folks mentioned by Jeremiah. I don’t bake cakes for the queen of heaven he mentions, I don’t pour out drink offerings to gods other than Adonai, etc.

He is trying to imply an equivalence between the “queen of heaven” false deity in Jeremiah 7 and Catholics referring to Mary as the “Queen of Heaven”.

Well that’s just nonsense. Jeremiah isn’t talking about Mary and Catholics are actually forbidden by the Catholic faith to consider Mary a god. In fact, the Church formally condemned the heresy of a sect that sought to adore Mary as a god and offer sacrifice to her.
