Queenship of Mary (Aug.22) - "My Queen and my Mother..."

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Hopefully many who have already made the Toal Consecration of themselves to Jesus through Mary, will renew that Consecration today, using either the long form of the Prayer or the short form: “My Queen and my Mother, I am all yours, keep me, guard me as your property and possession”. Mary gives all to Jesus and so our consecration is to Him through her. Those who have not yet consecrated themselves, hopefully are praying for grace to know, love and serve Jesus as King and Mary as Queen, as God leads them.

1. To Mary alone God gave the keys of the cellars of divine love and the ability to enter the most sublime and secret ways of perfection, and lead others along them. Mary alone gives to the unfortunate children of unfaithful Eve entry into that earthly paradise where they may walk pleasantly with God and be safely hidden from their enemies. There they can feed without fear of death on the delicious fruit of the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They can drink copiously the heavenly waters of that beauteous fountain which gushes forth in such abundance. As she is herself the earthly paradise, that virgin and blessed land from which sinful Adam and Eve were expelled she lets only those whom she chooses enter her domain in order to make them saints.
2. All the rich among the people, to use an expression of the Holy Spirit as explained by St. Bernard, all the rich among the people will look pleadingly upon her countenance throughout all ages and particularly as the world draws to its end. This means that the greatest saints, those richest in grace and virtue will be the most assiduous in praying to the most Blessed Virgin, looking up to her as the perfect model to imitate and as a powerful helper to assist them.
3. I said that this will happen especially towards the end of the world, and indeed soon, because Almighty God and His holy Mother are to raise up great saints who will surpass in holiness most other saints as much as the cedars of Lebanon tower above little shrubs. This has been revealed to a holy soul whose life has been written by M. de Renty.

Come, Holy Spirit, kindle in us the Fire of Your Love. Jesus we trust in You, Who gave Mary to us to be our Mother and Model. Mary, my Queen and my Mother, I am all yours and through you I belong totally to God as you are totally His.

Dear Bluebright,

Thanks for your “heart” which lets us know you read the words of St. Louis de Montfort this morning and were blessed by them. If you renewed your Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary, as I did today, let us rejoice together that God has given us such a grace!

If you have yet to consider this possibility for yourself, I encourage you to read St. Louis de Montfort’s treatise on “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin” I just realized I left the link out of my OP this morning. I need to add another postscript!

I love this analogy. How wonderful that all the children of God, and anyone who calls out to Mary, wanting to be her child, can take refuge in the Immaculate Heart of our Queen and Mother. I like the idea that Mary is the true “land overflowing with milk and honey”, prophesied in the Old Testament.

Here is a similarly beautiful passage from St. Alphonsus Liguori, a doctor of the Church:

St. Bernard, speaking of the great compassion of Mary towards us poor creatures, says, “that she is the land overflowing with milk and honey promised by God” (In Salve Reg . s. 3). Hence St. Leo observes, “that the Blessed Virgin has so merciful a heart, that she deserves not only to be called merciful, but mercy itself”. St. Bonaventure also, considering that Mary was made Mother of God on account of the miserable, and that to her is committed the charge of dispensing mercy; considering, moreover, the tender care she takes of all, and that her compassion is so great that she seems to have no other desire than that of relieving the needy; says, that when he looks at her, he seems no longer to see the justice of God, but only the divine mercy, of which Mary is full. “O Mary, when I behold thee, I can only discern mercy, for thou wast made Mother of God for the wretched, and then thou wast instructed with their charge: thou art all solicitude for them; thou art walled in with mercy; thy only wish is to show it” ( Stim. Div. am . p. 3, c. 19).

What a beautiful quote from St. Bonaventure! How encouraging for us – when we look at ourselves and see such wretchedness – to remember Mary’s Compassion and her perfect Mother-Love for us which mirrors His Mercy. Thanks so much for sharing that with us today on her Feast. If we were only to see Mary as Queen without remembering Jesus gave her to us as Mother, we might feel somewhat distant from her, but St. Bonaventure was given that insight to “behold” our Mother as she was instructed by Jesus from His Cross to be solicitous towards us “and walled in with mercy” only to show it to us!

May God help us to look away from oursleves, to lose ourselves, so that we may live in and remain in Jesus, with our Mother.

Amen! Mary is not a queen of justice, but is the Queen of Mercy. It’s no wonder, then, that Jesus, being Infinitely Good, wants us to come to Him through Mary. This is why I found “The Glories of Mary” so consoling, where St. Alphonsus Liguori writes:

Kings should, then, occupy themselves principally in works of mercy, but not so as to forget the just punishments that are to be inflicted on the guilty. It is, however, not thus with Mary, who, although a Queen, is not a queen of justice, intent on the punishment of the wicked, but a queen of mercy, intent only on commiserating and pardoning sinners. And this is the reason for which the Church requires that we should expressly call her “the Queen of Mercy.”

Here’s a Novena Prayer one can pray for nine days to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth.

Dr Scott Hahn published it on YouTube in 2012:

I greet you, ever-blessed Virgin, Mother of God, refuge of sinners, and Queen of the Universe.

Most loving Mother, attracted by your beauty, sweetness, and tender compassion, I confidently turn to you, and beg of you to obtain for me of your dear Son the favor I request in this novena: (mention your request).

Obtain for me also, Queen of Heaven and Earth, the most lively contrition for my many sins and the grace to imitate closely those virtues which you practiced so faithfully, especially humility, purity, and obedience. Above all, I beg you to be my mother and protectress, to receive me into the number of your devoted children, and to guide me from your high throne of glory.

Do not reject my petitions, Mother of Mercy! Have pity on me, and do not abandon me during life or at the moment of my death.

Accept this offering, sweet Queen of Heaven and Earth, and obtain for me from your dear Son, Jesus Christ, the favors I ask through your intercession in this novena.

Obtain for me also a generous, constant love of God, perfect submission to His Holy Will, the true spirit of a Christian, and the grace of final perseverance.

Just want to share this beautiful picture of Our Lady i took this summer at a waterwell in France. I noticed later that the sun is shaped as a heart. I hope it brings you as much joy as it does me every time i look at it.

Thanks so much for this picture, It’s a bit dark so I can’t make out the features on the statue but clearly the sun is in the shape of a heart, which is so beautiful an image for God to have shine down on His Mother and through her to shine on us.

My husband graduated from Franciscan and I was able to sit in on a few of Dr. Hahn’s classes. I remember thinking to myself how blessed those students were when he reminded them that in studying their Catholic Faith, they were “handling jewels”. As a convert, Dr. Hahn treasured the Faith he had found.

Thanks for your reply.

There may be some churches that do just that, or some classrooms where children are blessed to have teachers with special devotion to Mary. However, hopefully, many of us by renewing our Consecration to Jesus through Mary, crowned her in a spiritual way, in the hidden temples of our hearts.
