Question about 1 Corinthians 2:9 and Heaven

The work is redemption; 1 Cor 2:9. Heaven (CCC 1027) is redemption’s destination,
Paul quotes from the Prophet Isaiah:

From the beginning of the world they have not heard, nor perceived with the ears: the eye hath not seen, O God, besides thee, what things thou hast prepared for them that wait for thee. (Is 64:4 D-R).

Never was deliverance more unexpected or miraculous. S. Paul quotes this passage, to shew the wisdom manifested in the incarnation. 1 Cor. 2:9. It is commonly applied to the glory of heaven.-Haydock, G. L. (1859). (Is 64:4).

From preliminary examination of the text, it would seem St. Paul is referring to wisdom and the revelation of wisdom through the Spirit which is not available to men on their own here on earth when he says:

“9 - But, as it is written: That eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath it entered into the heart of man, what things God hath prepared for them that love him. 10 - But to us God hath revealed them, by this Spirit. For the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.”

So it would seem that this passage is not about heaven, but rather an understanding of Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation here on earth?

I did a search online and an overwhelming number of (non-catholic) commentators all agree that though this passage can be applied to heaven in a future sense in a way, this is not what St. Paul is referencing.

But then I found that in (CCC) 1027 it states:

This mystery of blessed communion with God and all who are in Christ is beyond all understanding and description. Scripture speaks of it in images: life, light, peace, wedding feast, wine of the kingdom, the Father’s house, the heavenly Jerusalem, paradise: "no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man conceived, what God has prepared for those who love him."

I don’t understand this, why does the CCC state this, even though it seems that St. Paul is talking more about immediate knowledge that all Christians and followers of Chirst can and should receive here on earth?

St. Fuastina seems to use the passage to speak to man’s incomprehension of heaven? I am so confused on this one?

Have you ever had the expereice of reading the bible and then sometime later REREADING the same pasage an comming up with a different insight? It’s a very COMMON expereince that demonistrates how the Holy Spirt aids our understanding relative to “where we are at” in the present moment.

Never forget the bible exist for OUR BENEFIT, not God’s:thumbsup:

MANY levels of understanding ARE possible [even probable: evidence the many protestant variant undertandings]; which is why these passages here are CRITICAL to a right understanding:

So its POSSIBLE to understand both of these accounts and being revealed truth.

2nd. Peter 1: 16-21 “You will do well to pay attention to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by the impulse of man, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”

2nd. Tim. 3:16-17 “All scripture, [is] inspired of God, [and] is profitable to teach, to reprove, to correct, to instruct in justice, That the man of God may be perfect, furnished to every good work.”

Matthew 4:4 “Who answered and said: It is written, Not in bread alone doth man live, but in every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God”

Eph.3: 9 to 12 “And to make all men see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things; that through the church [SINGULAR: meaning THE CATHOLIC Church] the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose which he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and confidence of access through our faith in him"

READ very carefully:

Mt. 10:1-8
Mt. 16:18-19
Mt. 28:16-20
John 17:14-20

And it is evident whom Christ Choose to Teach His singular truths; Who Christ guides, guards and protects and WHY their Is but: One God; with His One Faith through His One True Church. Amen:thumbsup:

I’m not sure I understand you, are you saying that it CAN be understood both ways? Or that only one way is correct? If so what is the correct way to understand it? I’m sorry for my ignorance but I did not follow your answer to me at all.

If we can understand heaven now it must not be much better than what we already have! St Paul also said this:
"For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." 1 Cor 13:12
“Now” is this life. “Then” is the next. Additionally, heavenly things have indeed been directly revealed to some, as with St Paul, for example, as well as other saints such as Teresa of Avila, for the benefit and encouragement of us all.
