Question about 1 Corinthians Ch 5:1-13?

To this these verse’s seem to be contradicting what Jesus did, forgive my ignorance, but did not Jesus eat with the drunkard? Was He not friend with the sinner? But these verses say to cast them out and not to associate with sinners? Of course I know I am wrong about this or misunderstanding something here, so please enlighten me with the correct teaching on this verse. God bless

I think Paul makes it clear in verse 10 and following that he isn’t talking about those who are not Christians, but rather he is telling us to avoid even eating with people who call themselves Christian (brothers) and do these things. As Paul points out, the only way to avoid everyone like this is to go out of the world.

Well, maybe a very simple solution is appropriate here. Perhaps Jesus and St. Paul are BOTH right!

One must try to avoid sinful behavior oneself. One should “steer clear” of those who would corrupt one into sinful behavior (St. Paul). But one can (and should) seek out – and try to positively influence – those who are inclined to doing evil – especially when one is “strong” / “mature” enough to avoid the sinful behavior himself/herself (Jesus). Indeed, Christians must do this, as part of the effort to evangelize the world.

Maybe the degree of “maturity” has something to do with it.

More mature Christians can adeptly handle matters that might be difficult and potentially dangerous for the novice…

St. Paul makes a clear distinction between Believers and non-Believers… it is the Believers who revert and still want to hold a place in the Body of Christ that St. Paul wants to cast out from within the Body… he calls them to pass judgment upon the Believers who go back (as the pig to its filth) to the old sinful habits and he warns that the Believers should not concern themselves with non-Believers (as to make an excuse for their behavior) since they will be Judged by God!

…no, St. Paul is not seeking to Save those who Believe and damn the unBelievers!
