Question about 1962 Missal

I am looking to get the Latin-English Vulgate and the 1962 Missal for Christmas and I had a question about the Missal, and it might be a dumb one lol.

Can we use the 1962 Missal as our daily missal or do we have to use the recent one?

Btw if you havnt seen the Douhay-Reims (spelling?) Latin-English Bible, it’s awesome 👍

I have the 1962 Roman Catholic Daily Missal (for when I attend the Traditional Latin Mass) but that does not show the weekday Mass (in Ordinary Form) as laid out in the to the Roman Missal, Third Edition that every US parish follows.

If you go to Daily Mass (in the OF) you will need to purchase the new translation missal as the readings are not the same.

I think you want to use the Missal that follows the rite you are attending 🙂 If it is not a Mass in the extraordinary form of the Roman Rite, I do not think it would it be possible to use the 1962 Missal.
 
Just to be clear, the 1962 missal is not just a Latin-English edition of the modern Mass of Paul VI, its a different liturgy.

If you brought it to the Ordinary Form Mass you would see broad similarities and many of the major prayers would be the same, but you couldn’t use it word-for-word and the sit/stand/kneel notations would be different and therefore incorrect for use in the OF Mass.
 
1962 handmissal–and even an earlier one will pass, I’d say–is for the EF Mass. It can be used as a reference for and a… point of comparison for the Ordinary Form (please, no one take this cynically, I do not mean what you’re thinking).
 
If you mean that you’d use it for personal devotion (reading the Gospel and Epistle of the day, praying prayers of the appendix, etc…) then there is no “rule” about what you can use. You can do whatever you want as long as it is within the norms of law (e.g.: you can’t pray to idols or demons, sacrifice goats in pagan rituals, use heretical prayers, etc…).

I personally have the 1962 Roman Catholic Daily Missal and love it. I got the leather edition and it is much better than the Baronius Press Missal I had before.
 
Thanks everyone for all the help. I’m using it more for a devotional than actual use in the EF, I’ve been trying to immerse myself in Latin, it seems to be improving my spiritual life, did not expect that lol. So it’s not necessarily goin to be used in Mass.

To the poster earlier…Booo ROLL TIDE!! Just wait for the iron bowl lol

Like everyone else has said; if you purchase a 1962 missal it will match the extraordinary form of the mass. This is different than the form of mass that is available at most parishes. If you purchase a “daily missal” you can most certainly use it for daily mass in the extraordinary form.

If you simply want a Latin-English missal for use with the ordinary form of mass might I suggest this one. theologicalforum.org/product.asp?ci=&pi=445
