Regarding the five-fold scapular, does one need to be enrolled / invested into each scapular individually (and if so, must the individual scapular be worn as opposed to the five-fold) or is there a sort of “blanket investure” that enrolls a person into each scapular all at once (under the “umbrella” of the five-fold scapular)? So would being invested into the five-fold thus invest me into the confraternities of those scapulars (such as the Confraternity of Our Lady of the Brown Scapular)? **I want to know if I must first be formally invested in the brown scapular before I am invested into the five-fold…**do the Carmelites (or any of the other orders) have anything to say about this topic (re: five-fold scapular investure)? **Before (or while) being invested into the 5-fold, do I need to wear the individual scapulars separately for each investment or does the 5-fold suffice? I’ve read, I think, in other places that the Brown, Red, and Blue require individual investment prior to being invested into the 5-fold, which includes them.

A follow up question: Would wearing the five-fold scapular in place of the individual scapulars (or even the opposite extreme of wearing both the five-fold as well as the individual scapulars) detract from the merit / grace associated with the sacramentals?

Thanks so much!!!

…does nobody know the details involving this particular sacramental?

::sigh::

You know, I tried contacting some Redemptorists (I read that the five-fold had its origins with them). And was not able to (thus far) get answers from them, either.

The five-fold usually comes with the investiture prayers in a pamphlet. It’s one rite, but in it there are portions for each scapular. Likewise, it is also acceptable to be invested individually in all five and wear just the five-fold–or vice verse 👍

lol, it was the super confident “thumb’s up” that did it for me.

thanks, gen!!! 😃
