I have a friend who is reading “The Facts on Roman Catholicism” by John Weldon and John Ankerberg seen here: amazon.com/Facts-Roman-Catholicism/dp/0736911103

He is reading this book because he has heard rumors of the beliefs of the catholic church (by mostly anti-catholic or at least misinformed protestants im sure) and is looking to find out the truth first hand. He said my devotion to the Catholic church is what spurred him to study up on the catholic faith. He is a good guy and well founded in his beliefs as a presbyterian and isnt anti-catholic. Is this a good book for him to be reading given the situation? I havent had a chance to look through it but it looks ok judging by the amazon description. Im just making sure it isnt misleading about our faith and accurately represents the catholic chruch. Has anyone out there read this book? Can I get yall’s thoughts and opinions on it?

Thanks much!

Here’s a much better book.

Ask him if he would trust a book about the lives and training of race horses written by someone whose only experience is watching a horse race from the bleachers.

God bless you,

Ruthie

Check out the customer reviews, very telling.
Right you are. I think the OP should ask his friend “How would you feel if I were to read a book called ‘The Facts of Protestantism’, written by a Catholic, with reader reviews like your book has?”

The book referred to in the original does not appear to be a good book. While I have not read it, the reviewer comments seem to indicate that it does not fairly present Catholic teachings. A major red flag is that neither author is Catholic.

I like Ruthie’s recommendataion. The Karl Keeting book, What Catholics Really Believe was one of the first 10 books I read when I started the RCIA when I converted. It is a quick and easy read, written in an engaging style that is never preachy and has a few flahses of humor here and there. Mr. Keeting was also wise enough to avoid personal editorializing and just stated what the Church actually teaches. It has my whole-hearted endorsement.

This is an anti-Catholic book.

Give him Catholic and Christian, or ***Why Do Catholics Do That?, ***or The Catholic Answer Book.
