If Adam and Eve are our first parents, should all inhabitants in this world be descendants of Adam and Eve and should we then all be related (cousins at the least) with one another

Not to derail the topic (even though I’m about to), but since we’re on the subject of Adam and Eve…

How does original sin pass down from generation to generation? Is original sin simply the ability to misuse our free will and disobey God, and since Adam and Eve did this, we all had to suffer their guilt, or what? I always found it kind of confusing that we’re all guilty of their sin (except for Mother Mary)

From the Catechism:
405
Although it is proper to each individual,295 original sin does not have the character of a personal fault in any of Adam’s descendants. It is a deprivation of original holiness and justice, but human nature has not been totally corrupted: it is wounded in the natural powers proper to it; subject to ignorance, suffering, and the dominion of death; and inclined to sin—an inclination to evil that is called “concupiscence.” Baptism, by imparting the life of Christ’s grace, erases original sin and turns a man back toward God, but the consequences for nature, weakened and inclined to evil, persist in man and summon him to spiritual
We are all cousins. I wonder how many greats grandparents are the first parents?

There was a test in the dressing and keeping of the garden (Gen 2:15). Adam failed to do battle with the serpent because he did not want to die. A serpent is able to kill easily and it is this threat that the serpent conveys. According to Dr. Scott Hahn, some read serpernt as a leviathan as in Isiah 27:1 but both represent a mortal threat. It was a choice to eat the fruit or to die a physical death. The eating of the fruit resulted in sin, the Original Sin and the death of God’s Grace in our preternatural humanity. Adam let Eve converse with the serpent when he should have acted. Ultimately the eating of the fruit was a distrust of God that resulted in disobedience with pride to “become like Gods”. (Gen 3:5)

As Jesus is considered the “Second Adam” we can surmise that had Adam battled the serpent and died, he, like Christ, would have been resurrected with an incorruptible body as Jesus had and Eve would have been assumed into this condition as Mary has been into heaven, awaiting the Second Coming and the perfecting of the rest of creation. As God knows all, He must have known the result of this prior to creation, according to our way of thinking about it.

This is my own reasoning for the handing down of Original Sin based on what I know from studying Catholic theology. We all have the battle to contend with which is ultimately the choice for God or not, much like the angels had to make a choice.

Hi… are there any books written or any papers relating to this topic about our common ancestors in Adam and Eve and all the world being related.

Thanks!!

We’re not guilty of committing their sin. We fell with Adam & Eve, so to speak. God deemed it right for things to happen that way and one way or the other, if we look around, the evidence of original sin is certainly here. And so long as we as individuals continue in sin-preferring our way to God’s-then we’re affirming Adam & Eve’s choice everyday. And when we turn back to God, like the Prodigal returning home, we affirm that Gods will is supreme after all.

That is a very important point, and why discrimination is wrong. Otherwise different groups of people evolved at various times and at various races. Then one is justified in ranking them as Ubermann und Untermann.

As Aslan says someplace in Narnia, we are all sons of Adam and daughters of Eve. No king can claim a greater parentage; no pauper has a lesser heritage.

Even science proves we are all related through mitochondrial DNA analysis which shows that every human alive today comes from one woman.

Hi Thistle,
Do you know of the scientific paper, periodical etc which explains this mitochondrial DNA analysis, leading to all human kind being born of Eve. Thanks

Hi. Welcome to the Forum.

Yes, I think we are all cousins. That’s what God teaches us anyway, that we are all brothers and sisters. That relationship was broken when they (our fore-parents) sinned, and brother went against brother. In Jesus the relationship was reinstated and through him we are brothers and sisters again. 🙂

God bless.

Adam’s human nature was wounded when his original holiness was lost by his original sin. Adam’s wounded nature was transmitted to his direct descendents, including you and me. What we inherited was a contracted state of being deprived of original holiness and justice.
