Hey everyone! I am helping train altar servers at my parish, and although I have been serving for 14 years, I have never seen rubrics for servers in the Mass of Paul VI (Novus Ordo, Ordinary Form, whatever). Finding rubrics for the “Tridentine” Mass is so easy, but for the Mass of Paul VI, not so much.

I was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction as to finding rubrics for servers in the post-conciliar Mass.

Thank you and in JMJ,
Joseph

I’m not sure that there is a guide per se, what the servers do and how they do it can vary vastly between Parishes. What you will find though is guides like this which you could use as a template before putting in Parish specific details.

Did read what it says?

**6. All members will rise to recite the Our Father
a. The altar servers will rise and proceed to the altar, to hold hands with the priest. **

I did have a quick look at it. I linked to it as an example of what is available, there are many things about it which makes it a good model for someone who might want to make a guide for the servers in their Parish e.g. clear instructions set out in the order they’d do them in the Mass. Obviously they’d need to remove some of the instructions which border on/are liturgical abuses but as it’s doubtful those practices are used at the OPs Parish they could be easily removed when editing to add the details relevant to their Parish.

I’m not saying there aren’t better guides out there, quite a few Parish web sites have similar things available. In fact that wasn’t the one I was looking for initially, this might be more to your liking although the format it’s written in might not be as user friendly for new Altar servers as the other one.

Thank you all for your help. These are all wonderful guides and helps!

Joseph
