Question about Atheism

Do the majority of mainstream christians (all denominations) consider modern atheism to be an enemy of their faith? thanks.
 
I don’t think atheists think of themselves as members of a group called ‘modern atheism’ and I don’t think they are, in general, enemies of organized religion.

It seems to me that there are functional atheists in many Christian churches and outside of them. These would be people who consider themselves Christians or ‘spiritual’ but whose belief in God doesn’t really impact their behavior. They are nice, they just don’t think much about God and they accept much of what they see on TV and in American society as ‘normal’.

No I don’t think so. If they made a decision by their own judgement and are not preachy about it and I don’t seem them as a enemy.

Even if they are fervent in their view but present a rational logical way of philosophy I think it is actually rewarding to talk with them … it reinforce our views of my catholic faith.

Although I hate fanatical atheist that do not want to discuss. Fanaticals are bad in anything.

No matter which denomination or Athiest healthy discussions are always healthy for our faith. I hope we continue to give this to our Atheist friend.

They aren’t really taken seriously enough to be considered an enemy. An enemy presents a threat…atheists just make a spectacle of themselves trying not to believe in God and in the end they typically discredit THEMSELVES without even realizing it, making Christianity look better by default. What kind of “enemy” could that be?

Probably not the majority. I’m sure some individuals do, and some bitterly resent the hostility, bigotry, and ignorance to which many atheists subject them. But atheists are just as much patients in the great hospital for sinners that is the Church as we are. They are as desperately in need of the spiritual blood transfusion that Christ offers us as everyone else.

The only true enemy the Church, and its faithful adherents, have is the devil.

Kids are frustrating too.
Most atheists are on a very kid-like fit when it comes to God. Comparable to a child (the atheist) nagging his parents (the Christian) about whether or not Santa Claus (God) really exists.

The problem is that even if parents were to never the admit that Santa Claus exists the child would eventually come to TRULY believe that Santa Claus isn’t there and at that point, the child would stop making such a fuss over him.

What’s noticeable about atheists is that they can NEVER stop the fuss over God, making it reasonable to assume that (unlike the child and Santa Claus) they can never come to a genuine belief that God isn’t there. Hence the conflicted, lifelong hissy fit over God.

If I had to speak for mainstream Christians I would say yes, and generally a malicious one.
 
I’ll share the way I look at this situation. I’d like to separate two terms for order of clarity: Atheist and Anti-theist

Atheist: He/She who does not believe in God, but is otherwise indifferent to religions and other things related. Basically does not oppose but does not believe.🤷

Anti-theist: He/She who not only does not believe in God, but despises religions of any kind and actively opposes them. Basically does not believe AND is a hater.:mad:

^These people can be a pain. and to my experience these are usually people who aren’t satisfied with their life and have taken up blaming organized religions for it (I know, weird…).
 
The biggest danger is not from atheists, who are few in number. They often have read the Bible carefully, and are conversant with Christian ideas. The enemy is those among our own camp who are smug in their belief of their own righteousness. Add to those, the people who are indifferent to religion. An atheist may convert, but someone who is indifferent could care less.
