Thank you, Isaiah45!!! That was going to be my next question…

Catholics use a lot of big, technical terms…at least for my brain. 👍
:tiphat:

That’s what happens to a 2,000 years old religion, lol. Add to that the uncontrollable impulse and need to define everything and BOOM!!! We have a Latin fest of terms :D.

Disclaimer: The above was meant in good heart and in light conversation. It was not meant to offend anyone, if it did, please accept my apologies.

Please don’t take Isaiah45’s explanation for the Catholic view as I would think he would not think it appropriate for a Catholic to define anything Lutheran, Baptist, or whatever. And I’m sure Randy can and will give a much fuller understanding of his interpretation of Magisterium.

Until then please reference the first sentence of ccc 86, or all of the ccc on the Magisterium, and also Luke 10:16.

Peace!!!

It’s just another fancy shmancy catchy Latin word ;).

It means teaching office. It was established on Matthew 28 as Randy posted.

And here I was feeling all warm and fuzzy that Isaiah had agreed with me for once.

Rita-

One of the advantages of owning a hard copy of the Catechism instead of relying on the online versions is that the hardcopy has all kinds of glossaries and indexes and stuff in the back that you can’t see online. From the glossary:

MAGISTERIUM: The living, teaching office of the Church, whose task it is to give as authentic interpretation of the word of God, whether in its written form (Sacred Scripture), or in the form of Tradition. The Magisterium ensures the Church’s fidelity to the teaching of the Apostles in matters of faith and morals (85, 890, 2033).

You can look up those paragraphs online here.
