Next month we are having our 2 boys, ages 5yrs and 2yrs, baptized in the Catholic church. I am Catholic and thier father is not. The boys will be raised Catholic and already attend mass with me. Our problem is that we are having trouble finding a Catholic godfather for the boys. I have already asked my friend to be godmother, though she is Episcopalian (sp?). Their father wants the godfather to be someone we are close to and has chosen a friend of his that is not Catholic. I have really been stressing on this and think I have come up with a conclusion. Is it ok to have 4 godparents for the boys together? I originally asked my father to be godfather and he declined because he said grandparents should not be godparents. But I am hoping that if we can have 4 my parents will stand along side my best friend and my hubby’s best friend (who belongs to the Church of Ireland).I hope this makes sence.

Thank you for bringing this thread. My Godparents are my grandparents and you must find Catholic Godparents to your kids. If you dont find two Godparents for your boys you can go with one Godparents for both boys and it is allowed.

Chrissy,

I recently asked an apologist a question about my son’s baptism & received a very helpful answer. Please read it, I hope it helps!

Here it is: http://forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=57728
