My dad the deacon has a woman in RCIA that asked him where in the Bible does it say you have to be baptised to enter into heaven. He didn’t know how to answer, and neither do I. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
God Bless

John 3:3-5

Mark 16:16 He who believes and is Baptized will be saved.

Jesus tells Nicodemus that we must be born of water and spirit

Peter says Baptism now saves you

Acts frequently talks about the need for baptism…

Isaiah ( i believe) talks about how we will be sprinkled with water, making us clean before god

Adults are told to repent and be baptised…

The list goes on and on…

In Christ

Thanks folks, I really appreciate your help.
Your Dad, the Deacon? God help us. At least he asked.

There are “non-baptismal” ways of getting to heaven, although they are extraordinary: Martyrdom for Christ (Baptism of blood) and sudden death while on the road to conversion or where Baptism is not possible (Baptism of desire).

Does your dad have a Catechism? Here’s a link to a searchable on-line edition.

Since he’s going to be reading this I’m going to be very careful in my response.

He’s in his mid 70’s and occasionaly has senior moments.
I on the other hand have no excuses. 🤷

I think you’re really cool. Your dad is lucky to have you.

There are about one hundred and fifty verses in the New Testament that say that salvation is by faith and do not mention baptism

Yes, faith is required for salvation. While the verses you refer to may not each mention baptism, the same Bible does state that baptism is also a requirement for salvation.

As Br. Rich pointed out above:

John 3:3-5
“Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.’”

Mark 16:16
“He who believes and is Baptized will be saved.”

… among others. Pretty clear.

did you happen to skip over this section @ your local bible study?

Mark 16:16:
He who believes and is Baptized will be saved.

This directly (and clearly) contradicts what you believe.

Not when you truly understand what the writer means

Acts 16; 30 and they ask "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Acts 16 :31 And they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved and thy house

Acts 16 :31 And they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved and thy house
Do you understand the principle of harmonizing what ALL Scriptures says?

Mark 16:16:
He who believes and is Baptized will be saved.

Acts 16 :31
And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved and thy house

Romans 8:24
For we are saved by hope. But hope that is seen, is not hope. For what a man seeth, why doth he hope for?

Just because in the passage you quoted it only says, “believe” only, (not “only believe”), in other passages like Mark and the Romans one, it gives more requirements. You cant take the MINIMUM and ignore the rest just because you looked at only one verse. So far, from the quotes above, it is Belief (Faith), Hope, and Baptism. The Holy Spirit is smart and NEVER put “alone” (thats what protestants inserted) in any of those requirements. So please, next time you try to make an infallible statement, try to read the REST of the bible, without having an agenda.

Unless you twist it to your own destruction.
