He’s got the whole world in His hands, He’s got the whole world in His hands, He’s got the whole world in His hands, the whole world in His hands!

Now you know the source of the hymn.

God Bless

Well, if statues aren’t graven images, then what are?
Better reread that part of the bible. Thou shalt not make any graven images to worship them. The whole point here is not worshiping false gods.

God Bless.

After I went through my First Communion, my priest gave us a little wooden block that depicted Mary, a person, angels, and some other stuff. It was “Byzantine Art” it said. However, there is something I don’t understand in the picture.

A person, maybe a saint, is holding a black orb in front of Mary, about a foot in diameter. I was wondering… anyone know what this is? Is it some Wiccan or Pagan symbol maybe? I’ve been searching the web, but have found nothing. If you really need it, I can take a picture and post it here. Any help is great, because I’d like to know what is!
I thought you said you made your First Communion? That means you are Catholic, right? Or did you make your First Communion in some other church? If you are Catholic, why are you just now questioning the “graven images” thing? Didn’t you ask these questions in the Inquiry part of RCIA?

Byzantine ICONS are holy art. I can’t expalin it because I only touched on it in some classes I took but do a serach on “Iconography”. These are very beautiful peices of holy art by virtue of how they are made. You’ll find it interesting, for sure! There is certaily nothing wrong with it - they inspire us to seek God.

KRISZTUS FELDAMADT!
FALOBAN FELDAMADT!

Actually, this whole ikon is chock full of symbolism!

*The Infant Jesus hold an orb and septer to show He is the ruler of the world. Mary holds the Rod That Flowers to show that she and the Infant Jesus are of the root of the tree of Jesse. The angles above them are the Archangels Michael and Gabriel who carry a banner, unfortunately the banner has been cut off. To the left side of the ikon is written one of the beautiful prayers that are chanted to the Mother of God. *

This ikon is late 17th century or early 18th Century Russia, because of the crowns, most likely from Western Russia, near what is today Poland or the Baltic Coast.

Hope this helps…

XPUCTOCb BOCKPEC!

Nobody can answer my question?!
