Question about CCC 1242

Hi all,

Can someone explain what it means that there would be a “second anointing with sacred chrism to be conferred later by the bishop”?

This might seem silly, but the bishop wasn’t at my confirmation and I’m getting worried that maybe my confirmation wasn’t valid or wasn’t completed.

I know alot of these questions pop up on here, but this paragraph just got me thinking.

Confirmation does not have to be done by a bishop.

It refers, as you know, to the sealing with the Holy Spirit which is confirmation.
The ordinary minister for confirmation is a bishop. However, the bishop may also permit a priest to perform the sacrament, and in necessity (such as in danger of death) a priest may perform the sacrament without the bishop’s express permission. Also, when adults are baptized (such as at the Easter Vigil) they are also confirmed by the priest who baptizes them.
No matter what–though the chrism which is used for the sacrament has still been consecrated by the bishop.

1242 begins by referring to the post-baptismal annointing which announces or refers to a second later annointing which will be done later, called Confirmation. You just didn’t connect all the dots in the paragraph! Your confirmationannointing would be valid whether done by the Bishop or by a priest.’
