Question about: Chaplet to St. Dymphna

Hi Everybody,

I found two, or maybe three Internet Stores selling a Chaplet to St. Dymphna.

I know a couple of Prayers to St Dymphna, which I use often, but I never knew (until now) that among the Devotions to this Saint, there is a Chaplet too.

I was searching on the Catholic Encyclopaedia, but I could not find any info there about this particular Chaplet. I would like to know:
  1. What is the origin from this Chaplet?
  2. Did this originate through a Private Revelation? (such as the one from St. Michael’s, or Divine Mercy)
  3. Is it an approved Devotion?, and
  4. Are there Indulgences associated with it?
I hope You can help me to find out.

I pray very often to St. Dymphna too, and I’d like to thank her for her intercession, but I’d like to know more, so I can share this info with more people who need her powerful intercession.

Cheers,

AnotherFriend33.

Well,

I’m still searching for answers, but since I haven’t found, I thought I could share some other Questions of mine, and hopefully someone out there could give me a hand with this:

I found three different types of St. Dymphna’s Chaplets, here is what I call Type I:

In Green:

In White:

In Three Colors, Red, Green, and White:

Here is what I call Type II:

Here is what I call Type III:

I found this Picture from the Medal it has:

And this one from what is on the Back from the Medal:

Here is what Wikipedia says about “Ex Indumentis”:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ex_indumentis

So, I don’t know for sure which one is the correct Chaplet, or are they all Ok?

If any of You have one, please let me know which Type is yours, and where did You get it from?

Cheers,

AF33.

Your Type I chaplets actually include two types: a regular chaplet, and (the red, white, and green beads on cotton cords) a type of “sacrifice beads” normally associated with St. Therese of Lisiuex. In St. Therese’s “little way”, one carries a string of these beads, and pulls a bead from one end of the double cord to the other every time one wants to offer a small sacrifice to God during the day. That’s a very minimalist description of St. Therese’s Little Way – you’d have to look it up separately to get a better description of how it developed, and how to use the beads. They are generally considered suitable for children to use as an aid to prayer during the day.

In the booklet, “My Favorite Catholic Chaplets”, the St. Dymphna chaplet is described as consisting of a medal of St. Dymphna and two introductory beads, followed by 15 equally-spaced beads, which may be of any color. So your other Type I is a standard St. Dymphna chaplet. The prayers for it are: Hail Mary on the first bead for the Holy Father’s intentions, Our Father on the second bead for the Holy Father’s intentions, and a Gloria on each of the 15 beads, in honor of the 15 years of St. Dymphna’s life. You mention your own intentions before or after the chaplet.

I’m a little surprised at Aquinas and More (my closest Catholic store, in Colorado Springs), selling a nine-bead chaplet with a St. Dymphna medal, because that is not the traditional form; however, they do something similar for St. Patrick and St. Brigid (of Ireland) together, selling a nine-bead (green) string with a medal of St. Patrick and a card with a short novena prayer addressed to both saints.

Hi Everybody,

My newest update is, sadly, I did not get any Answers from the Sources I expected to know the Answers to my Questions.

On the bright side of it, I’d like to thank CMacKirnan. The Info you shared is very useful.

On the other hand, Dymphna82, I don’t want you to take this as a personal offence, but the Link you provided is Heretical.

Please do not follow the instructions from that Link, avoid it at all cost.

P.S.: I will not explain why, for any Catholic, it should be obvious why. Please keep the thread on track, and avoid diverting its central topic.
