Question about Confession and children born in a non Catholic marriage

My daughter and husband both asked me questions about my confession today and I answered their questions and gave more info besides. Is it a sin to discuss your confession with others? If so, is it a mortal sin?
Also, if you have children from a marriage not recognized by the church,( a non catholic marriage) are the children considered illegitimate? (I was told this by a woman who worked in the church office when I inquired about having my first child baptized years ago. It came up today and I want to make sure I’m giving out the right information.

No it’s not a sin to discuss your confession with others. A priest is bound by the seal of confession and can’t talk about it, but you can. It’s not something that I normally discuss with other people, however.

There is nothing sinful about discussing your own confession with others. It is sometimes not recommended because it could put your confessor in an awkward spot if someone you shared information about your confession with tried to ask him questions.

You should be aware, though, that if you overhear the confession of another, you are bound by the seal of the confessional, just like the priest is. Sometimes this rule causes confusion.

I have been told several times by knowledgable people that there is no such thing as illegitimacy in the Church. A child is a child. Legitimacy is a civil, legal thing that used to bother enough people that the Church addressed it at some points in the past.

You can discuss your confession with anyone you want. NO, your children are not considered illegitiment by the Church.

no it is not a sin to discuss you confession with others voluntarily, whether it is prudent is another matter. It is wrong for another person to question you about your confession. It is NOTB.

no they are not illegitimate, this is a civil law designation and not relevant here. the secretary in the Church office is not the authority on canon law, the pastor is. All such inquiries should be addressed to the pastor, who is supposed to interview all parents who request baptism for their children (an any one who comes to the parish requesting the sacraments).
