Before I ask the question, a little background: Yesterday, (Saturday) I needed to go to confession. It has been on my mind for 2 weeks and I havent been able to get to confession so I have not had communion. Not only does it upset me that I haven’t been able to get to confession, but I feel terrible that I can’t receive the eucharist when I am at mass.

So - yesterday (in the midst of a very hectic day running errands and shuttling the kids to various things) I stopped what I was doing to get to confession. When I got to church - there was a wedding in progress! I only had a small window of time before I had to pick up my son, so I couldn’t wait for the wedding to be over.

I know God knows I made a very serious attempt to go, and today I didn’t receive communion again, but my question is: did God forgive me my sin? I still feel as though I have to go to confession, but should something happen to me, do you think the sin is forgiven?

Confessions weren’t taking place during the wedding? At some churches not even a wedding will stop confessions from happening if they’re scheduled. Next time check to see if the light is on over the confessional door.

Ordinarily one cant receive communion with unconfessed mortal sin. This doesn’t mean the sin isn’t forgiven with a sincere Act of Perfect Contrition (which I hope you said immediately), simply that confession is required to fit you to receive the sacraments again.

God doesn’t demand the impossible, however it IS possible to refrain from Communion, so you must continue to do so until you can confess.

Call the priest and make an appointment - most will be happy to hear confession even outside scheduled times.

🙂 I believe that God is a very forgiving God and is very aware of our thoughts and our attempts. I truely believe that your sin was forgivin 100%.
