Question about "Contemporary Mass"

I’ve been to both the “Traditional” and the “Contemporary” Masses at my parish, and it really seems as if the music is the big difference. Trad has organ, and this sunday at the contemporary, they had some guitar music (although acoustic and relatively reverent) and piano. I’m just worried about abuses, and I’m still not fully informed on the different celebrations of the Mass.

Pope Benedict XVI wrote beautifully about how the EF and OF masses compliment each other. You shouldn’t concern yourself about attending either one. Both are beautiful expressions of the faith.

Are you concerned that there ARE abuses or that there’s the potential for abuse? Because that would be a big difference!

I’m starting RCIA at the parish I’ve been attending, and something has been bothering me recently. This parish offers a traditional mass in the mornings and a “contemporary” mass during the evening. I work until night on sundays, so the only one I can attend is the contemporary mass. Is this something I should be worried about, or am I just being silly?

Yes, try to get yourself to a Traditional Latin Mass. Look online to find one in your area. Mass is not a style. Gregorian chant, polyphony, and organ are approved music.

Thank you. Honestly, doesn’t anyone get tired of the Mass bashing around here?
I sure do.
If you go to a Mass that’s awful, don’t go there again! Problem solved.

Yes, I do get tired of it.

In an instant, everything can change in our lives, and we would be grateful for ANY Mass in any language with any kind of music. When all is said and done, the Mass is our opportunity to receive Jesus Christ, and He is our all-in-all, not the music or the language or whether or not women wear veils or halter tops.

So are hymns, unison singing by the congregation, and piano and guitar.

Based on your OP it sounds like you’re assuming that the same priests who celebrate a reverent Mass in the morning are somehow changing into completely different priests when they celebrate Mass in the evening. Why not assume the opposite? If they celebrate reverently in the morning they are just as reverent in the evening.

“Approved” is an understatement. Vatican II called for them.
