Question about death

Has there been any Catholic explanation by any Catholics as to why some people who are dying shed a tear before passing onto eternity? I am referring more to those who have been unable to express anything (even pain) for hours or days prior to their death.

The scientific explanation is that the tiny muscle that automatically keeps the tear ducts closed relaxes completely and any moisture remaining is released. People are often so dehydrated at death, that nothing remains to be released, which is why you don’t see this in everyone.

Interesting…I always wondered if they were seeing something that causes tears of sorrow or joy.

Well, just because there is a scientific explanation, doesn’t rule out that they may be seeing something.

My ex Mother in Law (well she’s still my Family) as I love her, recently was dying (hours off death) as I prayed The Holy Rosary all night sitting with her, she fixated her eyes on her deceased Mother and mumbled “Mummy, why not? why not?”. She then smiled, despite coughing and choking on her aspiration, saying “so many lost souls, you have no idea”.

The following days after having regained consciousness off morphine, she stated to my 22 year old Daughter that she saw so many lost souls and no-one has any idea of the sadness and lost souls and that her time was not yet, having been told by her Mother that she is not ready (to die).

During the Holy Rosary, I asked for Jesus and Mother Mary’s Divine Holy Love and Intervention, according to “Thy Will”.

Since then, she has been placed into a Nursing Home permanently, although recently has re-revisited hospital (she is a stroke victim) and in and out of hospital with either chest or lung infections. She had told the Specialist she wished to die at that time which caused her to be put on palliative care (no medical treatment no drips) yet placed on morphine to die.

Jesus intervened after having been asked, healed her and found an excellent nursing home for her with regular visitors.
 
If this is the scientific explanation, why one tear only. Someone close to me was in coma, when she died, her eye opened, she turned her head toward me and one tear feel her eye.

I always wondered about that one tear.
 
Because the body is releasing moisture that is just sitting there, the patient is not actively crying (which produces tears.). People often urinate, defecate, etc. at death as all muscle tone is lost.

That does not mean that the individual is not also having a spiritual experience, though.
