Question about Easter Vigil and some Holy days

Our priest always tries to encourage us to really make Holy week more solemn. For instance he says (besides fasting) to pray more on Good Friday, to turn off the TV, and do things that will make you remember those sad days.

So, I’m so sorry about this silly question.

But if my family goes to the Easter Vigil, that Mass is a celebration.

So once we get home from Easter Vigil, do you think we should be in a more festive mood? It’s still Saturday technically. I’m a little confused about that.

If you have been to the Easter Vigil then it is EASTER! It isn’t really Saturday anymore.

That’s why after the Vigil our parish usually has a ‘break fast’. We gather to break our Paschal fast with good food, music & friends – totally appropriate given that we’ve just finished singing “JESUS CHRIST IS RISEN TODAY, ALLELUIA!!”

Since the Easter Vigil must begin after dark, with the recent time change to DST, that means celebrations not starting until at least 8PM. Given the length of the typical liturgy as three hours, there really won’t be much “Saturday” left by the time you get home.

But yes, you should be festive! We always went out to eat afterwards, before moving to a parish where the Vigil is very late. Even now we sing Easter hymns in the car on the way home, and when we arrive, we eat candy and cookies.
