I watched parts of the Mass of Good Shepherd Sunday in the EF which EWTN televised on Sunday. And it brings up a couple of questions:
- Is there some disharmony between the OF Calendar and the EF Calendar? According to my OF missal, the Fourth Sunday of Easter is Good Shepherd Sunday. Is Good Shepherd Sunday on the Third Sunday of Easter in the EF Calendar?
- I didn’t watch the Mass after the Offertory. The priest prepared two chalices…the large one (which presumably was the main one) and a smaller one, which it put the pall over and set it off to the side of corporal. What was the second chalice for?
- I have noticed that the priests who celebrate the EF Mass on EWTN (both FSSP and Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest) wear birettas. So do the deacons (or the priests vesting down as deacons). Would this be true also of Franciscans or other orders of priests who wear a habit? Like for example, if Fr. Anthony Mary of EWTN would celebrate an EF mass, would he have the option of wearing a biretta. What if the EWTN clergy celebrated an EF Mass, who would wear a biretta in this configuration:
Celebrant: Fr. Antony Mary, MFVA: biretta?
Master of Ceremony: Fr. Mitch Pacwa, SJ: biretta?
Deacon: Fr. John Corapi, SOLT: biretta?
Sub-Deacon: Rev. Deacon Mr. Bill Steltemeir (sp): biretta?
