The link above was something I read earlier and the Rev. Funes seems to be a very intelligent guy as his credentials are quite impressive, but this got me thinking…

I do believe there are many many intelligent civilizations out there in the vast universe, I mainly believe this because God has mentioned how is likes to create, so it seems logical to me that we would have likely been ‘creating’ for many eons before we were even a thought in his mind, and likely he has created since mankind as well. I have a problem with God creating only living things on ONE planet…out of trillions upon trillions of planets out there, this would just not be Gods nature imo.

Furthermore, it made me wonder about the nature of these other civilizations, I know it is literally impossible to guess about this, but if God created them, just like us, would it be a given, he has the same type of relationship with them, as he does with us?

Is it possible God sent his son to these civilizations as well, suffering for their sins? Or would these civilizations have a ‘version’ of the bible…concerning life on their planet?

It also makes me wonder if any or all of these beings MAY all go to the same heaven/hell upon death, just like we do…Think how amazing it would be when we die to be standing there with millions of different type of beings, all from various civilizations!!

I realize these are some very deep questions and probably no one here can answer them, but surely someone that came into contact with Jesus when he was on earth, must have asked a similar question about the stars and what exists out there…what, if any, are the other civilizations like?..Im assuming?

Or would God see no need for mankind to have this kind of knowledge, since it really does not have any implications on us, unless we come into contact with one of these civilizations at some point in the future, which is pretty likely, given that our technology will progress and progress until we are able to travel great distances in space.

I read the article and after the first paragraph I stop.

1st off, i totally believe we are not alone in the universe. In genesis, God creates “the heavens(plural) and the earth”. As in the kingdom of heaven and the physical heaven we know as the universe. It seems to me that it’d be impractical to think that we are the only children of God. The universe is so unfathomably vast that it seems unlikely that we are the only civilization in it that He created. Like the saying goes, “If we are the only planet that has life, it seems like a big waste of space”. I’m sure He would be involved with all his creations in the universe just like He has been with us. I believe we all would go to Gods kingdom together since we would all be children of God in the same way. This would be a very awesome thing to me. I always think about how great it’ll be to learn about all the mysterys of everything when i get to heaven. There’s so many things that happen all around us that we are unaware of. Receiving this knowledge would be a great thing to me.

Not only are there likely to be many other civilizations out there, many physicists now believe that there are likely to be multiple universes that we don’t know anything about

Some of these civilizations maybe far more advanced than ours. Perhaps God has a closer relationship with them?

So is Jesus the Son of Man as well as the Son of ET?

I doubt if anyone asked Jesus this question. In those days they thought that Earth was the center of the Universe and that stars were probably holes in the sky.
Or would God see no need for mankind to have this kind of knowledge, since it really does not have any implications on us, unless we come into contact with one of these civilizations at some point in the future, which is pretty likely, given that our technology will progress and progress until we are able to travel great distances in space.
These are a lot of thoughts, but I am not sure what exactly your question is. There is a high probability that there are other intelligent civilizations in the Universe. They probably have their own religion and beliefs and they are unlikely to be exactly like those of the Catholic Church. It will be very interesting to see the Church’s reaction, if and when any ETs from some advanced civilization ever land on Earth.

Why even bother thinking about something we can never know about? We can discuss all the ramifications when we know definitely that there are other populated worlds. Enough for the day are today’s problems.

Being a science fiction fan since my teens, I thought about this more than 50 years ago. My only reactions were: “that’s really neat!”. I want ed to see those other created beings, and as a teen, my ambitions once I got to Heaven (I was maybe 13 or so then) were: (!) to become a guardian angel and (2) to flit around as a spirit and visit as many worlds and stars as I could before God called me back because the Last Judgment was about to occur on my planet and He was going to make a “new Heaven and a new Earth”. Then I’d have a new, “special” (glorified) body, and could go explore the new planets created at that time!

Childish, maybe. Interesting idea? Absolutely. Especially after I found out I couldn’t “become” a guardian Angel! LOL

Mormons believe each soul in Heaven gets to rule over their own planet.

Could it be that some where way out there, Heaven or a part of Heaven exists as a physical or semi physical place.
.
There is so must real estate in the universe or multi-verse that God could put many habitable planets or many civilizations.

The spirit world and physical world do not necessarily have to be in different dimensions. The vastness of space would prevent either one from meeting at least until many millenniums down the road.

Have you read C. S. Lewis’s “Space Trilogy”? It explores the possibility of alien worlds without original sin, without Satan’s influence, and other things. Definitely what I would call “Theological Science Fiction”.

In particular though, in the series worlds older than ours had intelligent creatures of fantastic forms, made in God’s image (with regard to mind/spirit). However our world had to be saved, and so God was made man. In subsequent worlds, now that God had a physical form too, intelligent beings were made to look like mankind.
