I was born a Catholic. My mothers side of the family is completely Catholic. My Grandfather, when vacationing, finds the nearest Church and Mass time before he books his hotel. He was born into a large family of eight, the sons of extremely poor German-Catholic immigrants. My father’s side of the family is completely Jewish, although my father is not a practicing Jew. I was adopted at birth into this family (I am a first generation American, my birth parents were both Scots) and instantly was raised as a Catholic. My mom began to ask questions about her faith, and I never recieved a first communion. I had gone to a Jewish preschool when I was young, because of the wonderful tolerance I would grow towards people of all religions and spiritualities. When I was eleven, I began to attend a synagogue near our house in order to comprehend this ‘foreign’ religion. I found that I felt connected to Judaism more than I had ever felt connected to Catholicism, and thus recieved a Bar Mitzvah, and converted from there**. If any of you are wondering I was circumcised at birth**.
I would hope so. Because doing it at 13 sounds painful.

Please forgive me if this begins to sound harsh, it is not my intention in anyway to attack.

I too have to take exception to you describing Jesus as the greatest profit. Jesus not only angered the contemporary Jewish believers of his day but so angered the chief priests of the faith that they sought to murder him. Jesus not only led people to act and live in ways that were contrary to the teachings of the time but claimed that he was God. No other profit made such a claim. If the path to heaven is through adherence to the law and to the obedience of God if an individual claims to be that God in the flesh and then proceeds to completely change the dynamic of a faith to the end that he is killed for crimes against the faith, how then do we call that individual a great profit. It sounds far to simple but either Jesus of Nazareth was the most vile, derisive, evil liar, and con artist in the history of the world or if he is not a liar he is the very Son of God.

I think I would recommend you possibly look into the messianic jewish faith. This church follows jewish rites and practices, but fully accepts Jesus of Nazareth as Messiah.

For the first 11 years of my life, I was a Catholic. Then, I converted to Judaism. I have not rejected Christ, as I still believe that he was one of G-d’s greatest prophets. I do not necessarily believe in Jesus the man as much as The Christ, the one who invites the sick to eat, the one who bridges the gap between all. I have not been given the gift of faith in order to believe that Christ is the messiah. I am wondering, however, if there is any hope for me in the world to come. I will not convert back to the Church, however, as I am a practicing Jew. I am wondering if there is any salvation for me.
John Woolman wrote…"There is a principle which is pure, placed in the human mind, which in different places and ages hath had different names. It is, however, pure and proceeds from God. It is deep and inward, confined to no forms of religion nor excluded from any, where the heart stands in perfect sincerity. In whomsoever this takes root and grows, of what nation soever they become brethren in the best sense of the expression. "

I believe if you respond to God’s Light.

I am of course more than a little biased on this matter, but I would say there is the opportunity for your salvation. However, as a Jew, how to gain entrance into the World to Come, or whether you have a bigger or lesser share of it, should NOT be your primary thought, concern, or worry. Jews are taught to lead a moral life in the here and now, be kind and generous to your neighbor in thought and deed, whether s/he be Jew or Gentile, and leave it to G-d to decide, based on His infinite mercy and justice, who goes to Heaven, who needs cleansing and atonement in Purgatory for eleven or twelve months first, and who is separated from G-d. Judaism is an orthoprax religion more than an orthodox faith, based on good deeds and acts of charity, so that the particular religion you belong to is not the main concern; rather, your moral behavior here on Earth is the important thing.

Since you converted to Judaism, could you please tell me Who is that referring to in the red sentence:

(Zechariah 12:10-14)
“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. On that day the weeping in Jerusalem will be great, like the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. The land will mourn, each clan by itself, with their wives by themselves: the clan of the house of David and their wives, the clan of the house of Nathan and their wives, the clan of the house of Levi and their wives, the clan of Shimei and their wives, and all the rest of the clans and their wives.
As is often the case in several of these proof-texts, this verse is a mistranslation of the original Hebrew; specifically the word “pierced” is incorrectly translated. Further, the context of the whole passage reveals the event described is not a crucifixion.

It’s from the StormFront Talmud. 😉

Which Jewish tradition would that be, by the way?
The White Supremacist hate group? They specialize in revisionist history.

The tradition is based on what I learned from Torah Judaism about the historical writings by famous rabbis and Hebrew scholars of former times, who find fault mainly with the interpretation of Jesus’ words by Christianity rather than with Jesus himself.

Sorry, ‘StormFront Talmud’ is what I’ve been using as a general term to describe the various ‘quotes’ from the Talmud that crop up from time to time - people get them directly from one or another of the usual suspects in the Jew-hating biz or have picked them up from message boards etc and bring them up here.

We, obviously, live in very different worlds.

There’s Purgatory in Judaism?? Or are you relating it to Catholicism?

There surely is Purgatory in Judaism: it’s called Gehinnom in Hebrew (Gehenna in Yiddish). It’s an atonement period for the cleansing of sins that lasts 11 months for most people and a full year for those who really need it. There may also be some who cannot be cleansed: these people are separated from G-d. Catholicism has borrowed more from Judaism than you might expect.

How do you know that in time you will never come back to Christ in his Church? Are you saying you can predict the future:eek:

If you have this great gift you would be a millionare, You would be able to pick the lottery numbers and hit the lotto every day.

But you do not have this gift of foretelling the future. Only GOd can. And only God will be the one to judge you.

All I can do is tell you what I know God tells us. To Pray daily for his Grace and Wisdom.

We do not borrow from nothing. Everything we have in Catholicism is the word of God. It is not something that is borrowed it is a free gift from our God the Father.

It is his word to us in the O.T and his SOn is the word made flesh in the N.T.

Purgatory is not taught in the CC a place that a person is sent to be cleansed but then not all can be cleansed. That is not the teachings of the CC.

Hmm wow. I have no idea! Thanks for educating me! That’s really fascinating.

I think he’s just explaining the Jewish perspective.

It sounds like a Purgatory/Hell place. Purging for some, eternal separation for others.

Jews can be saved just as any other person. “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:26-29). Everyone is offered the ability to be saved by the same set of rules. There isn’t one set of rules for the Jews and another for the Gentiles
