Now I know that we have to go to Confession for the forgiveness of sins, however I do have a question about God’s forgiveness and I was hoping you guys could maybe help me out here. Basically what I would like to know is let’s say someone is sorrowful for their sins and intends to go to confession as soon as possible, are they in some sort of way partially forgiven before the time of Confession as long as they fulfill that intent? Or is there no forgiveness until you go to Confession? Sort of a silly question but I was just thinking about this. I guess in cases of death where someone had the intent to go to Confession but couldn’t make it God would have to be the judge. But what are your thoughts?

God is not limited by laws.
If a person was on his way to confession and got hit by a bus, he’s covered.
Read about: “perfect contrition”.

Whether or not your mortal sin is forgiven before going to Confession depends on the quality of your contrition. Your sin will be forgiven the instant you manifest perfect contrition (contrition motivated by love of God), though you are still obliged to go to Confession if possible. However, if your contrition is not perfect, your sin will not forgiven until you go to Confession.

If you’re sorry and die before getting to confession, you will be forgiven.

As I walk the path to atone for my sins as a human being I must walk alone ,
Because the answer to this journey of self discovery can only be found within

I found these words a while ago, have no idea of the original author
Maybe not an answer to your question , but just think it’s a good quote

CIC (Latin Canon Law)
**Can. 916 **A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to celebrate Mass or receive the body of the Lord without previous sacramental confession unless there is a grave reason and there is no opportunity to confess; in this case the person is to remember the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition which includes the resolution of confessing as soon as possible.

Thanks guys for the awesome responses, I think I may have found my answer.
