Is it okay for a man and a woman to get married (both catholics) if one of them can’t have children? If the answer is yes, then how come gays can’t get married and raise kids.

I am NOT pro-gay marriage. But I have… 2 friends who openly support gays. I freeze up and pretend not to hear. I know I sound like a loser for not standing up for the Bible and stuff but I get scared. Can somone give me some links on why gay marriage is wrong? Thanks guys.

There is no such thing as gay marriage since the definition of marriage is the union between a man and a woman joined in Holy Matrimony or a civil ceremony. God designed the human body for a man to be with a woman sexually within the context of a marriage for conjugal love and procreation. Even if one spouse cannot have children, the intent is the union of man and woman as God intended.

A man’s body is not designed for sex with a man. It is quite simple and any anatomy class will suffice. Same for women. I cannot take a plug at the end of my lamp and plug it into another plug. That’s why we electricians install receptacles. Things are made for a specific purpose as well as humans being designed for a specific purpose and gay sex was not God’s purpose.

I am not condeming homosexual orientation only homosexual activity. God does, His Church does, and so we must.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

Chastity and homosexuality
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, [140](file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Ronald/Desktop/catechism.htm#$2E4)] tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” [141](file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Ronald/Desktop/catechism.htm#$2E5)] They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

Much of it has to do with our understanding of the natural law…not to be confused with the laws of nature. I touch on the topic in this article.

teachccd nailed it pretty well.

Catholic Marriage is between a man and a woman. The concept of civil unions is an entirely different thing, and civil marriage is different as it is not sacramental.

You can in good faith as a Catholic “support” gays too, meaning that you can treat them with respect and dignity as fellow human beings without being supportive of gay behavior. “Hate the sin, love the sinner”. 👍

You aren’t alone in not quite knowing what to say or understanding the whole issue. You need to study what marriage means Here’s a few articles. Don’t forget to look in the catechism for the marriage section also.

God created Adam and Eve to be together, not Adam and Adam or Eve and Eve!!

Catholics can’t support Civil Unions either.

  1. The Church teaches that respect for homosexual persons cannot lead in any way to approval of homosexual behaviour or to legal recognition of homosexual unions. The common good requires that laws recognize, promote and protect marriage as the basis of the family, the primary unit of society. Legal recognition of homosexual unions or placing them on the same level as marriage would mean not only the approval of deviant behaviour, with the consequence of making it a model in present-day society, but would also obscure basic values which belong to the common inheritance of humanity. The Church cannot fail to defend these values, for the good of men and women and for the good of society itself.
