question about green scapular

Hi! I was just wondering, does the green scapular need to be made of wool, or can it be any cloth, and - I’m sort of confused does it consist of two pieces, like the brown scapular, or only one?

I saw on the website, the description of the original scapular:

The scapular consisted of a **simple piece of green cloth, rectangular in shape, hanging from a green string. On one side was an image of Our Lady dressed in a long white gown which reached to her bare feet. Over this she wore a light blue mantle. However, she wore no veil. Instead, her hair hung loosely about her; and in her hands she held her Heart from the top of which gushed abundant flames. Her bearing was enhanced by a majestic beauty all heavenly. On the other side of the scapular **was pictured her Immaculate Heart, all ablaze and transparent as crystal, with rays pouring out that appeared more dazzling than the sun. This Heart, pierced with a sword, was encircled by an inscription in the form of an oval and topped by a golden Cross. The inscription read:
“Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us, now and at the hour of our death.”

Also, I was wondering about the brown scapular too
my question is…I heard that only Catholics can be enrolled into the confraternity, and I’m not Catholic yet, but I will be on Easter. I was wondering if it would be alright to simply wear a brown scapular up to that point and then once I’m Catholic ask my priest to enroll me. Of course that’s not the same as wearing a blessed one and I know I won’t receive the same graces, but - is this allowed? Or should you ONLY wear them if you’re enrolled?

Hi Monica I keep a blessed, green scapular on a framed photo of my sister, who has fallen away from the faith.

Anyway… the green scapular is constructed a little differently than the brown scapular… in that, it has only one panel attached to the cord. The one I have, is green wool (back)… with a cloth front piece.

Since my sister lives over 2,000 miles away… I can’t place it in her drawer, or anything that belongs to her. So… I keep it on her photo. And I say the prayer for her, each night: “Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.”

Also… as far as I know, it is ok for you to wear the brown scapular now. But just to be sure, you might want to ask at RCIA. I’m very happy about your upcoming entry into the Church. Praying for you!

the scapular I have is similar, it has one panel not two… good to know that’s how it’s supposed to be
do you know if it’s supposed to be real wool? I don’t think mine is… is it oki if it’s just cloth? hmm…

I hope your sister will be lead back to faith!! I have a good friend who lives very far away and I really wish I could put a green scapular in her room or something, but I can’t… maybe I’ll put one on her picture too. Im sure God and Mary hear all prayers.

The Society of the Green Scapular says “cloth” … it doesn’t specify wool or any other specific type:
