Question about heaven, please help

Would anyone dispute this question and answer?

Question: Is there ice cream in heaven

Spiritually Immature answer: Heaven is a place of absolute happiness, so if you need ice cream to be happy, yes.

Spiritually Mature Answer: It does not matter. OUr happiness will be derived from being in the presence of God with nothing in our way.

Would everyone agree that the Spiritually Mature Answer is theologically correct? Our happiness in heaven is predicated upon the face-to-face presence of God?
 
in heaven there is no beer. thats why we drink it here!

Anyway you seem to imply that a hint of materialism in the afterlife equals spiritual immatureness.
 
Enjoy your ice cream now…“heaven” will take care of itself.🙂
 
Since every desire we experience here on Earth is a longing in at least some diminished sense for God, including the desire for ice cream, what need would there be for ice cream when that desire is more than fulfilled by the presence of God?
 
I think he things we love wil be in heaven but even better. Our beloved animals will be there,a nd they won’t fight, and they will be in even more interesting forms. Ice cream will be multi-dimensional, and have flavors in senses we don’t even have yet. It will grow on clouds or something and we can never get sick on it. Pizza will go through similar improvements. Trees will have even more shapes and exists in htousands of dimensions, giving even better shade and smelling wonderful. The ocean will be like a million oceans dancing together. We will be able to see all the stars. We will be able to hear them.
 
to me, this is the same as people who say they will not be happy in heaven without thier pets.

Too bad, your pets wont be there. And if you think the glory of God and all of his Angels, Saints, the Blessed Mother, et al, is not infinately better than a dog or some chocolate chip cookie dough, i would say you need to rethink your faith
 
I believe it is a different dimention, different reality, and we will be different.
 
Raphinal, Muslims believe that they will have sensual pleasures in heaven. I am not sure of the details.

personally i prefer the muslim heaven. you dont only get to be with god, but you also get 72 sex slaves!!! yeah baby!
 
I think that heaven will be everything we enjoy times infinite + being with God. It will be paradise.

When I was little, I was crying on my front porch because my dog had had to be put to sleep.

A nun was walking by (a real traditional looking nun), and she stopped to ask why I was crying. I told her. I said I worried my dog might not go to heaven.

She sat down next to me, put her arm around me, and said, “In heaven, everyone is supremely happy. And if you need your dog to be with you in Heaven, God will make sure he is there”.

I never forgot her telling me that, and I’m not even Catholic but Jewish. That meant a lot, what she said to me, why do you call it ‘spiritually immature’?

The reason that I called it spiritually immature is that there is a connection with spiritual happiness and physical happiness in this view. Yes, we are body and spirit together, but what we see as happiness on earth is based primarily on the physical. We cannot see the Face of God on this plain of existance. We long for that which we cannot have. In heaven, until the resurection of the body, the only happiness will have to be based on the spiritual.

I do not mean it to imply that it is a view held by someone who is immature or not an adult. It is a view that is held by children. It just seems like many people “outgrow” it and begin to see heaven’s gift as the unity with God.

By the way, what is the Jewish view of the afterlife?

Basically similar. We believe in the resurrection of the dead (techiyat ha’meitim) at the End of Days, the life of the World to Come (which we call the Olam ha’Ba), we believe that when someone dies, their soul goes to a place of purgation, to remove the debt due to any sins they may have committed (similar to your purgatory).

Basically the beliefs are the same (remember though, that I am Orthodox Jew, so my views will be from the most traditional school of Judaism.)

I asked you BECAUSE you are Orthodox. I have met Jews who do not beleive in an afterlife at all :confused:

Maimonides said that any Jew who denies the resurrection of the dead at the End of Days, and denies the World to Come, is a heretic and is lost unless he repents.

(maybe mention that to any such Jews you meet in the future? I bet it would shock them!)

Basically, i think this prayer sums it up…

Our Father, Who art in heaven
Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
